The“LAKEVIEWER”

LAKEVIEWCOMMUNITYCHURCH

Reformed Church in America

March 2011 Rev. Timothy Bush, Pastor

From thePastor’s Desk...

Greetings:

Ever have thoughts or aspirations of being a minister? “Yes,” “No,” or “Maybe?” The Apostle Peter in his first letter writes to us who are the Church, fellow believers, and the body of Christ:

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)

The truth of the matter is, as a Christian, you ARE a minister of JESUS CHRIST! You minister and witness to others every time you come in contact with another person.

Pastors are called to provide spiritual direction and leadership for the congregation. Pastors, therefore, must wear many hats. This has been my belief and experience has proved it to be true. In congregations there may be individuals who are better preachers, speakers, care givers, teachers, youth leaders, Bible students, etc., than the pastor. In the next several months we will be preparing to bring out the individual gifts each of us have as parts of the body Christ. This will be accomplished through Sunday morning messages, seminars, and training events.

I am looking forward to witnessing the Holy Spirit working in and through the people called the LakeviewCommunityChurch. Fasten your seat belts—for we are on an exciting journey!

Pastor Tim

Covering Sanctuary Artifacts during Lent

First Sunday in Lent: March 13, 2011

During the first six weeks of Lent leading to Easter Sunday, LakeviewCommunityChurch has, in the past few years, covered items in the Sanctuary with purple cloths. This is a symbolic gesture to slowly create a darkening environment as we anticipate the impending crucifixion of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For the Maundy Thursday evening service, all the purple cloths will be exchanged for black cloths illustrating the darkness of the crucifixion. Then, on Easter Sunday, we arrive to a bright and glorious Sanctuary celebrating the resurrection of our Lord. …continued on next page…

We will be planningstrategiestocontinue day-to-day operationsimmediately after the pastor leavesas well as discussing steps we need to take in the long-term processof bringinga new pastor to Lakeview.

We will continue to communicate progress and appropriate details via email, bulletins, and “Lakeviewer” as we move forward in this process.

Spaghetti Dinner

Jim, Erica, Amy, and I would like to thank all of you for your all of your work on the Spaghetti Dinner. It takes a great deal of organization, time, energy and donations! We are blessed at our little church to have so many people willing to get involved in some way.
First thanks to Terry Quetschenbach for helping with organization... lists, tickets, posters, donation letters, and stepping in at the last minute to serve salad! She began this tradition 17 years ago and we are still going strong and increasing every year!!
We would like to thank Geoff Pettifer, Mark Gill, Don Healey, Todd Mattle, and Tim Hettel for all of the work in the kitchen! They come the night before to start cooking and keep it going the next day all day!!!! They are whipped by the time it is over! Tim's special recipe keeps them coming back for more!!!!
Thanks to our dishwashers: Andrew Gill for stepping in at the last minute, Pastor Tim and Marilyn, and Laurie Raymond. We are so glad you were able to help! LOTS of dishes! What will we do next year without the Bushes?? They will just have to come back :)
All of the donations were amazing!Julie Hettel was our organizer for outside donations! We are so happy we could have her help again!! It is crucial! Also, thanks to the Romanskys, Ives, Williams, Howes, Bushes, Hibbards, Meyers, and Dolands for their answer to our last minute email! Special thanks to our runner, Becky Healey, for those last minute things we needed or ran out of!

SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL OF THE YOUTH!!! We were so proud of them and the service they gave! We got a great deal of compliments and tips for efforts! It is not an easy task coordinating their schedules, but they were committed and enthusiastic!—and always full of energy and fun!
LAST BUT NOT LEAST - Thanks to all of you who were able to come and support the dinner! We hope you enjoyed the food and service! We did have a great deal of people from the community come. It was great to see familiar faces as well as new ones!!!
We are blessed by all of you and all of the support of our youth! Bottom line—we served 207 people total and made over $1600! We look forward to serving you again next year and hope that God blesses you like He has blessed us!
In Him,

Suzanne Pettifer
