Dear Potential PhD Practicum/MA Intern Applicant:

On behalf of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Counseling Services, we are excited to begin our application process for the 2016-2017 Masters Internship and PhD Advanced Practicum experiences. Within this document you will find a tentative overview of the expectations for this opportunity and procedures for submitting an application. We welcome all interested applicants. I would like to set a date for receiving applications asFebruary 1, 2017. Interviews will be arranged upon receipt and review of materials. It is expected that we will have between 6 and 8slots for interns/practicum students. Offers for positions will be made after interviews are complete. If you have an interest in working within a university counseling Services, we would welcome your application. MASTERS INTERNSHIP AND ADVANCED DOCTORAL PRACTICUM

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

The Masters Internship will be approximately 16-20 hours per week over two (2) consecutive semesters with time off for University holidays and professional development. Counseling Services will enable the intern to meet the requirements for Masters Internship outlined by the Counseling Psychology and/or Clinical Psychology Department. Evaluation by the site supervisor will be sent to the academic department each semester. A certificate of completion of the Masters Internship will be given at the end of the experience.

The Advanced Practicum will be approximately 16-20 hours per week for studentsover two (2) semesters with time off for University holidays and professional development. Counseling Services will enable the Advanced Practicum student to meet the requirements for practicum outlined by the Counseling Psychology and/or Clinical Psychology Department. Evaluation by the site supervisor will be sent to the academic department each semester.

For those considering summer placement, the hour commitments are less and more flexible during the summer semester.

UMKC Counseling Services reserves the right to terminate any Practicum/MA Intern who is receiving unsatisfactory evaluations or who behaves unethically or illegally.

  • Counseling Services will determine the number of Practicum/MA Intern slots available each semester.
  • Applicants must:

1)Be eligible for masters internship or advanced practicum from their department.

2)Complete an application form, including a vita and two (2) letters of reference(emailed letters

are accepted) from individuals who have advised or directly supervised your clinical work.

3)Interview with the Training Coordinator and other staff.

  • Counseling Services will provide the applicant with:

1)A copy of hours and work expectations for Masters Internship or advanced practicum.

2)Any information requested about Counseling Services.

  • Selection Procedure

1)The availability of PhD Practicum/MA Intern positions will be sent to the Counseling

Psychology and Clinical Psychology departments.

2)Individuals may inquire about the Practicum/MA Intern experience.

3)Late applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis depending on available positions.

4) The Training Coordinator and Staff will select PhD Practicum Students/MA Internsafter

interviews are completed, and no later than within (1) one week after the last completed

interview.

5)All applicants will be informed of their selection or non-selection.

6)The selected applicant(s) will need to provide proof of satisfactory completion of other Practicum experiences.

***Any former trainee at UMKC Counseling Services from any academic program is not eligible to receive future counseling or assessment services at Counseling Services after completing their training experience at this agency.***

The 16-20 hours per week Masters Intern/Practicum Student experience will likely consist of the following:
