February is Heart Healthy Month. Maurie James, one of our members, provided our program about staying heart healthy and the importance of exercise.
The Assistant Superintendent, Karen Wentworth, presented the March program. She informed us about the Mansfield ISD improvements and future developments for the school district. We also had an enjoyable visit with Mr. Jack Knowles, Distict President. He encouraged us to attend our State TRTA Rally Day in Austin.
During April, we enjoyed a salad luncheon provided by the membership. The members also wore their Easter Parade Hats.
During this time, we arranged for the distribution of the books for the Pre-K students. Every Pre-K student the Mansfield School District will receive a book from MRSEA.
Over 750 books were provided
The students and their teachers have been looking forward to receiving these books.
In the month of May, our new officers will be installed. A silent auction of new/gently used items will be held to benefit the Pre-K book project and the scholarship program. Our $500 scholarship will be awarded to one MISD graduating senior who will be entering college working toward a degree in the field of education.
Besides our book project, we have donated canned and non-perishable goods to a local food bank. Our members also provided 207 pairs of socks and underwear to the school district clothes closet for needy students.
Lynn Pemberton has been keeping our members informed of the developments occuring in the Texas Legislature. She has given us updates on the Teacher Retirement Insurance concerns as well as encouraging us to stay active and keep walking.
Our members also give generously of their time by providing many hours of volunteer work to various groups and activities.
