MEETING MINUTES- SEPTEMBER

  • Mallard Park Update regarding MFD #2

Ertle briefed those in attendance on a recent meeting the Beach and Recreation committee had with members of FD#2. FD #2 agreed to cover the costs of repairing Mallard Park. ELD was contracted to complete the work for $8800. A formal agreement regarding future use of Mallard Park will be drafted.

  • Mallard formal agreement with school district after the park is redone.

A meeting will be sought with Manasquan school officials to discuss recreations use of the MES gym and cafetorium and the school’s use of the St. Denis gym and Mallard Park (baseball season). An attempt to formalize use agreements will be sought.

  • Mallard Park shed- Kemtpon Sheds is ready to go if approved- will be in place for start of flag- $1475 total VOTE: ____Unanimous____ YES ____0_____ NO

As a follow up to a previous meeting, Ertle asked the commission if they were still interested in ordering a storage shed for Mallard Park. Vote was unanimous. Shed to be ordered by Ertle. Ertle will arrange for delivery and placement.

  • Seniors Update

No seniors report given however Carol Blume was on hand to request a purchase of equipment for her ever growing Pickleball league. The commission agreed to purchasing a pickleball training machine and 50 pickleballs. Ertle will handle the order and delivery.

  • Summer program fees collected: Inlet Outlet $1800, Pink Pineapple $2000, Summer Slam $900 (not collected yet) Marine Science Camp $2100, Manni Yoga $417 - $7217 TOTAL

All of the aforementioned programs were well-received this summer. All vendors expressed interest in returning for the 2018 summer season.

  • Soccer Update

Rec Director Steve Antonucci reports that the season began on September 17th and all is going well. Approximately 230 children Grades K-8 from Manasquan Brielle and Sea Girt are participating.

  • Flag Football Update

Rec Director Steve Antonucci reports that the season is set to begin on Sunday October 1st at Mallard Park. Approximately 150 Manasquan children Grades K-8 will be participating.

  • St. Denis Fall Schedule

Rec Director Steve Antonucci reports that the first dance of the season was held on September 22nd in the St. Denis Gym. Same was very well attended. Steve will look to update the snack list to prevent unwanted food and drink that make for a difficult cleanup at the end of the evening. Steve will also be working on ideas to attract more chaperones to assist. The Training Room classes, yoga classes, paint paste and pour classes are all going well.

  • St Denis Dances- $250 deposit from groups looking to run concession. Deposit forfeited if not enough chaperones participate. Thoughts?

The rec commission chose not to pursue this idea at this time. Discussion was minimal. The topic of soliciting assistance from the MHS Key Club and NHS was discussed. Ertle will follow up.

  • DCI Repairs

Ertle advised the commission that he will be meeting with representatives from Manasquan DPW to address some punch list and fire inspection items at DCI. Ertle will check with finance department to check on monies available for repairs.

  • VIPLY online application for Rec Dances?

The commission is comfortable with using the current “Eventbrite” application for registering students who attend the monthly dances. Discussion was minimal.

  • MESEF Donation for Golf Outing Fundraiser- See email

The commission agreed to provide a “season pass” for the recreation dances that run from September to June.

  • Cable install at DCI- 1 location downstairs/ 1 location upstairs

Cable television (Optimum) was installed in the DCI Building in August. Well received by the Manasquan Seniors.

  • Fall/Winter programs- ideas? Bingo? Movies in St. Denis Gym?

  • Old Business

Ertle will research the following on behalf of the Recreation Commission: the purchase of 1st Aid kits for St Denis, DCI and for our outdoor programs, breakaway goals for the St. Denis gym, a hand truck to easily move supplies around St. Denis and DCI, a new shop vac for bathroom issues experienced at St. Denis (precautionary), status of exhaust fan at St. Denis gym, update AED pads for the AED located in St. Denis gym and a motion sensor for the portable bathroom at Mallard Park. Commission members in attendance approved the purchase of all items mentioned in this paragraph.

Ertle will begin researching sponsorship opportunities for anyone interested in having their banner advertisement hung in the St. Denis gymnasium.

  • New business

Lynne Accasiano from Big Hearts/Little Hearts has raised $850 for the purchase of a new AED for the DCI Building. The commission agreed to cover the difference in the cost so the purchase could be made. An instructional class will be offered once the AED is in place.
