7:45 – 8:50 “Workers’ Comp, ADA, FMLA & PHCA: Navigating The Alphabet Soup of Workers’ Comp Claims in Hawaii”

Anna-Elento Sneed is the Founding Director ES&A, Inc., A Law Corporation in Honolulu Hawaii. Ms. Elento-Sneed has more than 30 years of experience in Employment law, including Hawaii Workers’ Comp law. She is a sought after speaker who bonds easily with her audience and brings a clarity to how Hawaii law works in a variety of scenarios.

Objective: This scenario-based session is designed to provide insurance professionals with a clear understanding of which laws take precedence at the various stages of a Workers’ Comp claim.

9:00 – 10:00 “Controlling Workers’ Comp Claims Costs - The Case Management Solution”

Donna Brock is a Workers’ Compensation Supervisor & Technical Specialist for First Insurance Company of Hawaii in Honolulu.

Ms. Brock has more than 19 years of experience in Workers’ Comp claims and injured worker rehab programs with extensive experience working with Case Managers and other providers to satisfactorily resolve claims and return injured workers to their jobs or to modified duty as soon as they are physically able.

Objective: This session will provide Insurance professionals an understanding of the important steps necessary in bringing satisfactory closure to a claim and the return of the injured worker’s to work as soon as physically possible.

10:05 – 11:05 “Best Practices In Managing Vocational Rehab”

Preston Jones, M.ED, CRC, LMHC is the Manager of Medical Case Management at Hawaii Employers Mutual Insurance Co in Honolulu Hawaii. With more than 25 years in Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Mr. Jones brings to our meeting extensive experience in assessing the VR needs of injured workers and helping them achieve a level of rehabilitation that enables them to return to work as soon as they are physically able.

Objective: Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) is a statutory benefit in Hawaii, available to injured workers who may not be able to return to their regular job. This session is about guiding the employee to appropriate VR vendors and through treatment and in so doing, mitigate the length and cost of the claim.

11:10 - 12:10 pm “Developing an Effective Accident & Injury Prevention Safety Plan”

Tracy L. Lawson, CSP, CHST, CSHP, is the President of Lawson & Associates, Inc. in Mililani Hawaii. Ms. Lawson and her firm are respected resources in Hawaii for all things to do with worksite Safety, a field in which she possesses more than 17 years of experience and many achievement awards.

Objective: This session lays a path to accident prevention with a well-thought out & written safety plan that prevents worksite injuries and mitigates the overall cost of Workers’ Comp.

1:15 – 2:15 pm “Managing Stress Claims In Hawaii”

Nathalie S. Pettit, Esq. from the Law Offices of Nathalie S. Pettit & Associates in Honolulu Hawaii, specializes in Workers’ Compensation Law and brings to our meeting more than 14 years of experience, having been associated with two major Hawaii law firms prior to opening her own firm. Ms. Pettit is also a noted source for defending Hawaii employers in questionable stress claims.

Objective: Stress claims are among the fastest growing categories of Workers’ Comp cases - accounting for more than 17% of

Workers’ Comp claims nationally. As the cost of doing business climbs, so also does the pressure on workers to achieve higher

and higher goals. Stress is often the result, especially in under achieving employees. This session is about recognizing stress in

the workplace, and the steps an employer can take to substantiate or dispute a stress claim.

2:20 – 3:20 pm “Fraud Prevention in Workers’ Comp Red Flags & Investigation Strategies”

Patrick Carroll is the President and CEO of Horseman Investigations, Inc. in Honolulu Hawaii - a national investigations company with offices in Hawaii and throughout the mainland and extensive experience investigating questionable Workers’ Comp claims. He brings to our meeting more than 24 years of experience in the investigations field.

Brian Martyn is the Hawaii manager of Horseman Investigations with more than 7 years of experience

In both law enforcement and Investigations.

Objective: As the title conveys, this session is about Workers’ Comp fraud and how to determine if a questionable claim is valid or not.

3:25 – 4:25 pm “Contesting Questionable Workers’ Comp Claims – Building a Solid Case”

Jacqueline W. S. Amai, Esq., is a Partner with Gallagher Kane Amai, AAL, ALC in Honolulu Hawaii. A graduate of the University of Hawaii and the William S. Richardson School of Law, Jacqueline Amai is a Workers’ Comp attorney with 21 years of experience representing Hawaii employers as a senior partner of her firm.

Objective: This session begins where Session VI left off –with a questionable claim which a formal investigation may or may not have confirmed. This session explores how employers proceed legally from this point to formally dispute a claim and the key elements in building a solid case.
