“Making the healthy choice the easy choice where we live, work, and play.”

August 15, 2017

Dear Main Street Business:

We would like to hear from you!

The Creating Healthy Communities Program of Allen County Public Health is working to establish smoke-free areas throughout Allen County. The focus for this year is on smoke-free public spaces/events. We would like to work with the businesses along Main Street in Bluffton to establish smoke-free storefronts. This couldeventually lead to a smoke-free Main Street. This would mean that businesses, apartments, and other establishments would adopt and promote a smoke-free policy for their location.

The Smoke-Free Workplace Act already prohibits smoking indoors, but Ohio does not currently have an official law on smoking outside establishments. A smoke-free storefront could prohibit smoking outside entryways and eliminate people walking through a cloud of smoke to enter a Main Street business. It would also eliminate secondhand smoke from entering the building, aggravating health conditions or causing an unwanted smell.

Please let us know what you think about this type of project by filling out the enclosed survey and returning it in the self-addressed, stamped envelope included in this mailing. If you would like to disclose your thoughts for your business specifically, you may include the name of your business on the survey itself. If you would like to keep it anonymous, you do not need to include the business name. There is also an interest form included if you would like to provide your information so we can follow-up with you or your business. You do not need to return the response form if you do not wish to. We ask that you return the survey (and response form, if desired)by Thursday, August 31. Your opinions are very important to us!

If you have questions, please call Shelly Miller at Allen County Public Health at 419-228-4457 or email . Thank you for your help with this important project!
