Goldwood PTA General Meeting
Wednesday, September 14, 2016
- Meeting was called to order by Susan Hartung at 10:10am. Attending the meeting were Amy Dewey, Dana Carney, Erin Spies, Jennifer Barnes, Megan Maher, Melissa Heavey, Kate Leslie, Tina Millane, Kristie Brown, Angela Worgull, Rachel Van Meter, Amy Eberline, Jenny Saab and Dr. Carol Rosiak
- Officer Reports
- Principal – Dr. Rosiak
- School off to a great start
- Proactive letter sent out about head lice
- President – Susan Hartung
- GPSPTA Grant Request – One School, One Book
- Request for books and supplies for all students to read The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary
- Request is for $400 for lesson plans and supplies
- Majority of money for this event is coming from a grant from the Rocky River Education Forum
- Motion made by Susan Hartung and Megan Maher and Kristie Brown seconded the motion. Motion was approved with no dissent.
- Vice President – Erin Spies
- Snowflake Palace – Setup Nov. 29
- Nov 30-Dec. 1 – takedown on Dec. 2
- Spies is coordinating with high school for Key Club volunteers
- Budget is $8,000 for ordering – meeting is scheduled for Sept. 15th
- Penguin Patch – company that sends everything to us – they handle all communication with students/parents and we only pay for what we sell.
- Friends of the Library – asked for a booth at the event to have parents sign up and receive a free ice cream cone from Mitchell’s
- Not appropriate for Snowflake Palace – contact them about a booth at Fall Picnic

- Proposed 2016-2017 budget
- Audit was completed July 20th by Deb DeCarlo
- Beginning 6/30 $26,534.29
- Ending Balance 6/30 $17,821.90
- 5 checks uncleared – all are now cleared or voided out
- Amy Dewey made a motion to approve the audit. Megan Maher and Angela Worgull seconded the motion. Motion was approved with no dissent.
- 2016-2017 Budget was read –Amy Dewey moved to approve the budget, Jennifer Barnes and Susan Hartung seconded the motion. Motion was approved with no dissent.
- Delegate – Jennifer Barnes
- PTA Council Update
- Consideration for a grant to move the preschool to Beach. Issue is possible lead in the water. All other school passed the lead test
- October 12 – Kristen Race author of Mindful Parenting will be speaking at the high school at 7pm.
- Homecoming Update
- Food Truck Festival – Manna, River Dog, Sweet! Cupcakes
- Tickets are $5 – can be ordered before night. Table will be there the night of to buy tickets but probably a long line
- Committee Updates
- Hot Dog Day – Jennifer Barnes
- 6 extra hot dog days for both 1st and 2nd grade – account for siblings, dropped hot dogs
- Pizza Day – Julie Nazette & Jaclyn Musselman
- Extra pizza included as well
- Fall Fundraiser – Megan Maher
- Sales begin Monday, September 19th through September 30th
- Kensington will be doing the same fundraiser – and split the proceeds
- Gift will be for Popeyed Monster
- Top seller from each school gets 4 free tickets to Kalahari
- Pickup location will be at Board of Ed offices – November 9th 5-7pm
- SchoolKidz Fundraiser – Melissa Heavey
- Sales were similar to last year
- Melissa will book them for next year
- Welcome Back Staff Lunch – Melissa Walsh
- Lunch was a success – very much appreciated by the staff
- Santos and Scratch Bakery supplied the food
- Membership – Lindsey Wensinger & Tricia LionettiPensom
- Dr. Rosiak encouraged PTA to send out a flyer to all teachers encouraging them to signup for PTA – including all of the activities that PTA is responsible for
- Spiritwear –
- There is a shirt out there now that is misprinted with Goldwood Elementary School – they should be notified to have it switched to Goldwood Primary School – Boosters will be notified
- Fall Family Picnic – Kristie Brown
- Tuesday, September 21st
- Fundraiser, River Dog Food Truck, Boosters selling Spiritwear, will all be present
- Key Club volunteers will be responsible for picking up any errant trash
- Kristie will speak with Bev about including more information on the facilities request – including information for facilities to remove tables and trash cans from event
- River Dog Food Truck has filed city permit
- Assemblies – Kacie Baon and Jocelyn Rood
- October 25, 26th will be having a Yogini Kiera Willey – incorporates mindful breathing, music and moves for this age group.
- All assemblies need to be on the books as soon as possible.
- Square One Art Fundraiser – Molly Spurlock
- Dates have been confirmed with Mr. Rocco
- Artwork gets sent back late October and then order forms come home to students
- Artwork is delivered December 16th, Susan Hartung will ask to move delivery up to the December 15th – possibly Monday December 12th
- Box Tops – Kelly Sutherland
- Contest will be run similar to last year since it was so successful.
- Winter class contest winners will receive tobogganing tickets from the Metroparks
- Library – Angela Worgull
- September 29th – 11:15 training session for volunteers
- Limited number of volunteers will be needed for this year
- Anne Tomazin – Birthday Book Club – child will donate a book on their birthday and school will include a sticker with the kids name on it. Tomazin will be writing a grant for this program.
- Goldwood Garden – Rachel Van Meter
- Pumpkin Raffle – coming up in October
- Indoor Recess for Winter
- Teachers are interested in PTA donating games for classrooms
- Teachers/lunch monitors are encouraged to write grants for more classroom/indoor recess activities
