Updating Ultima:
From USB:
è Make the USB connection, remove the RS232 connection
è Start the Ultima
è Go to the Control Panel - System
è Go to the hardware tab
è Push the device manager button
è In the device manager open the list Ports (COM & LPT)
è Look at the comport number for the USB Serial Port (Mutoh Ultima): here it’s COM3
è Start the Ultima Update tool
è Select the right comport (here com3)
è Press the connect button
è The status bar starts moving
è Press “Start” to begin updating
è Select the right “.bin” file
è The Ultima gives a beep and "Connection with ULTIMA established! Please wait..." is shown in the update tool.
è After 13 seconds the message "Sending firmware to ULTIMA!! Please wait...!" appears in the update tool.
è The progress bar now starts increasing
è The first 3 seconds the progress bar colours red and green
è Afterwards the progress bar is black, this is because we passed the critical section of updating. When the machine is shut down in the critical section of the update (the first 15 seconds of the update with USB) we refer to the next section.
è After 1min02sec the update finishes with the text "Firmware update successful, restart the ULTIMA!" on the ultima update tool. The total update time with USB is then 1min18sec.
From RS232:
è Make the RS232 connection, remove the USB connection.
è Start the Ultima
è Check the Ultima comport settings:
Go to the communication menu and check following items:
- Baud rate: 19200 Baud
- Data bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop bits: 1
- Flow control: Softw
Updating is only possible with these settings!
We choose 19200 Baud to update at a relative high speed
è Start the Ultima Update tool
è Select the right comport, the number labelled at your PC connection (COMXX)
è Press the connect button
è The status bar starts moving
è Press “Start” to begin updating
è Select the right “.bin” file
è The Ultima gives a beep and "Connection with ULTIMA established! Please wait..." is shown in the update tool.
è After 13 seconds the message "Sending firmware to ULTIMA!! Please wait...!" appears in the update tool.
è The progress bar now starts increasing
è The first 12 seconds the progress bar colours red and green
è Afterwards the progress bar is black, this is because we passed the critical section of updating. When the machine is shut down in the critical section of the update (the first 25 seconds of the update with RS232) we refer to the next section.
è After 9min34sec the update finishes with the text "Firmware update successful, restart the ULTIMA!" on the ultima update tool. The total update time with RS232 is then 9min59sec.
When you shut down the machine outside the critical section:
It’s only possible to update with RS232 here.
è Start the machine
è Start the Ultima Update tool
è Select the right comport, the number labelled at your PC connection (COMXX)
è Press the connect button
è The status bar starts moving
è Shut down the Ultima!
è Press “Start” to begin updating
è Select the right “.bin” file
è Now you have “10 seconds” to start the machine!
è The Ultima gives a beep and "Connection with ULTIMA established! Please wait..." is shown in the update tool. If not you must restart from point 1, because you must start the machine in 10 seconds.
è After 13 seconds the message "Sending firmware to ULTIMA!! Please wait...!" appears in the update tool.
è The progress bar now starts increasing
è The first 12 seconds the progress bar colours red and green
è Afterwards the progress bar is black, this is because we passed the critical section of updating. When the machine is shut down in the critical section of the update (the first 25 seconds of the update with RS232) you must go back to the first point.
è After 9min34sec the update finishes with the text "Firmware update successful, restart the ULTIMA!" on the ultima update tool. The total update time with RS232 is then 9min59sec.
When you shut down the machine inside the critical section:
It’s only possible to update from flashcard.
è Shut down the machine
è Insert the flashcard
è Start the machine
è When firmware starts copying you hear a short beep
è If you not hear a short beep you have to shut down the machine, wait a few seconds and then restart the machine (This problem only occurs with some flashcards. You only have to restart the machine one time and updating will start without any problem…)
è Now the Ultima is verifying the update process
è When the Ultima start beeping again you can shut down the machine and remove the flash card
Updating the keyboard firmware:
When you updated the Ultima firmware you always have to update the keyboard also!
è Start the machine
è Wait till the Ultima has determined his width and maybe has loaded the media.
è Press the buttons: PRESETS + ORIGIN + SPEED + FORCE together
è “Code update, please wait...” appears on the keyboard, this update takes circa 45 sec. and the machine may not be shut down while doing this update.
è If the new version number of the firmware appears on the display, the update has finished.
è When you shut down the machine or disconnect the keyboard during the update, the keyboard needs service
