What the SCORECARD is:

A record of the college majors and starting jobs you are considering. The MAJORS – JOBS SCORECARD is to be used when starting with a list of college majors and finding which starting jobs you should pursue. How the SCORECARD shows your progress along the pathway to career:

a) Shows the college majors and starting jobs you have investigated, if any;

b) Shows if you have tested to see if you would be good at or interested in the starting jobs;

c) Shows whether you should attend college for what degree level to qualify for each job;

d) Shows the median starting salary you might expect; and

e) Shows the upper limit you should borrow to finance your college education.

How the SCORECARD shows what to do next:

High School Students

If you are in high school this SCORECARD allows you to screen your list of colleges to see if they offer the majors of interest and the degree levels required for the jobs.

College Students

If you are in college and haven’t selected a major this SCORECARD allows you to quickly determine which major you should select and to focus on the correct part time and summer jobs which will relate to your future starting job.

If you have committed to a major, and it is not associated with the jobs you would be good at, then you have two choices: switch majors or focus on gaining experience in other job areas which will lead to starting job offers of interest.

Recent College Graduates

This SCORECARD can explain why you are having difficulty getting a job. You may be searching or interviewing for starting jobs which do not match up with your major. Your solution is to focus on those jobs which match your major and you would be good at.
