MAILI HOLIMAN NAMED CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF SUNSET

Former Art Director of Wired and ReadyMade to Lead Visual Strategy
for the Ultimate Guide to Life in the West
New York, NY and Menlo Park, CA – September 24, 2012 – MailiHoliman has been named Creative Director of Sunset,it was announced today by Kitty Morgan, Editor-in-Chief of Sunset.Holiman will lead the brand’s creative direction across platforms: in the magazine, books, online, and tablet. Starting October 15, Holiman will be based at the brand’s editorial headquarters in Menlo Park, CA.
Holiman comes to Sunset from the George Lucas Educational Foundation, where she has been Creative Director for Edutopia and Edutopia.org, the foundation’s magazine and website, since October 2009. She was responsible for the visual direction and redesign of these two entities.
Prior to that, Holiman served as Art Director at Wired magazine and Art Director at Readymade magazine, where she was responsible for the visual strategy of the brand including content, photo direction, and layout. Previously, she spent nearly seven years at Spin, most recently as Assistant Art Director.
“Maili brings a tremendous breadth of creative work to us; she has designed both the high-tech Wired and the do-it-yourself ReadyMade,” said Morgan. “But I'm most excited by her ability to capture a brand's emotion and make it visible. Her modern yet warm aesthetic is exactly Sunset.”
Holiman has received many industry accolades, including awards for design from the American Society of Magazine Editors, the Society of Publication Designers, Magazine of the Year (2007, 2008, and 2009), and more. She received a B.F.A. in Graphic Design from the University of Kansas.
