Scholarship Name: Beth Chandler Service Scholarship – Highland Park Elementary

Deadline: Wednesday, March 8, 2017 – 3:00 p.m.

Background: This scholarship was established in honor of Beth Chandler upon her retirement in

May 2011 by Highland Park Elementary (HPE) faculty, family and friends in

appreciation of Beth’s faithful service to the students, staff and families of the Lee’s

Summit School District for 25 years – 13 of those at Highland Park Elementary.

Purpose: The purpose of the scholarship is to promote the pursuit of higher education leading to a degree. All applicants must have attended Highland Park Elementary at some time during their elementary school years.

Number of recipients: One scholarship will be awarded each year to a graduating senior.

(Applications will be provided at each high school, but only one district recipient

will be chosen annually. That recipient must have attended Highland Park

Elementary.)

Scholarship amount: $500

Guidelines: a. The applicant must have attended Highland Park Elementary

at some time during their K-6 years.

b.  The applicant must be a Lee’s Summit R-7 School District graduating senior.

c.  The applicant plans to pursue a higher education degree at a University, College, or Trade School.

d.  The applicant must be involved in civic, community or extra-curricular school activities.

e.  The applicant must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or above.

f.  The recipient shall in no way be limited by gender, race, religion, or any other designation that could exclude an individual.

Process: The selection committee will consist of members of the Chandler family, one HPE staff member, and one Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation board member. The award will be announced in May of each year and the recipient will also be recognized at the end of year HPE Assembly.

Scholarship Payment: The scholarship will be made by a LS Educational Foundation check payable to the

recipient and his/her choice of a higher learning institution. To receive the

scholarship check, recipient must send proof of enrollment to the Foundation at

301 NE Tudor Road, Lee's Summit, MO 64086.
