Library Officer

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Library Officer will demonstrate an open, flexible and collaborative approach, working to ensure that Loreto College’s stated philosophy, aims and objectives and Mission Statement are reflected in practice. The Library Officer provides general assistance in clerical duties, including data processing, locating resources, preparing collections and assisting students and staff with loans. A knowledge of library systems, especially Oliver5, would be an advantage. The supervision of students is a major aspect of the role.

Accountability/Reporting Relationship

The Library Officer is responsible to the Principal, through the Head of the Library.

·  Relevant qualifications and/or experience

·  Sound administrative skills

·  Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students and staff

·  Flexible attitude and approach to the workplace

·  Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise workloads, set and meet tight deadlines

·  Ability and desire to work as an effective and reliable team member as well as the ability to work independently

·  A high standard of computer literacy, including the ability to trouble shoot and problem solve

·  Working with Children Check.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

·  Operate, as directed, the library system Oliver

·  Provide timely and effective assistance to all Library patrons

·  Circulation Desk duty

·  Supervise students

·  Shelve, clean and tidy Library resources

·  Process, maintain and weed resource material as directed

·  Maintain the catalogue as absorbed

·  Assist students and staff in the use of the Library’s OPACs and photocopier

·  Assist in the preparation and set-up of Library displays and stocktaking

·  Attend Library meetings and school staff meetings, where appropriate

·  Assist other members of the Library team in a variety of tasks as required

·  Other duties as directed by the Head of Library.

Appraisal

An initial review will be conducted within a two month period of commencement and a formative review will be scheduled in the second half of 2017.

·  The position is located at 1600 Sturt Street, Ballarat 3350.

·  Terms and conditions of service are set out in the Victorian Catholic Education Multi Enterprise (2013)

·  The role will require the ability to work on a flexible roster and includes some school holiday work

·  The successful applicant will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check and a Police Records Check.
