Meeting Notes:

Welcoming Statements: James Hoskins, PTO president, opened the meeting by thanking everyone for their participation and noted that a sign-in sheet was being routed around for participant’s signatures.

Discussion of minutes from previous meetings: Parrett reviewed the September meeting minutes highlighting the approved fundraisers for the 2014/2015 school year inclusive of the following: Cherrydale Farms Fundraiser, Meet the Tigers Dance, Basketball Game Concessions, School Mall Fundraiser, PTO store, Doughnut Sale, Box Tops, and February Sweetheart Dance. Parrett highlighted additional discussion topics such as: utilization of money generated from PTO fundraisers; PTO prize awards to classrooms with the highest parent participation in monthly PTO meetings; establishment of yearbook working group; ideas to promote parent involvement and PTO participation; and Family Fitness Night support. Parrett noted that the PTO meeting dates had been finalized for the 2014/2015 school year.

Financial report:

  • Hoskins reported that the Cherrydale Farms Fundraiser generated $20,995.
  • Meet the Tigers Dance: $2,015.25 ($425 start up cost for concessions.)
  • A $1,601 deposit was made.
  • Current balance as of Oct. 13, 2014:

Old Business: Hoskins noted old business was covered in the meeting notes review portion of the meeting. Additionally, Hoskins announced the winners for the highest parent participation in the September and October PTO meetings. Hoskins announced that Mrs. Hornsby’s class would receive a gift card for parent participation in the September meeting and Mrs. Mocahbee’s class would receive a gift card for the October meeting.

New Business Discussion Topics:

  • Ideas to promote parent involvement and PTO participation: Hoskins noted hat that the PTO would be ordering London Tigers T-shirts for parents and students to promote school spirit and involvement. The meeting participants discussed two vendors: Ken’s Custom Tee’s and Chris Jones. (Motion 1: James Hoskins; Motion 2: Mrs. Blaire)
  • A second idea was introduced to promote parent involvement, which included having the PTO support an end of the year party for top performers in Accelerated Reading. The concept includes sponsoring a field trip to the Louisville Zoo for the top five performers from each class. An estimated cost of $630 was discussed.   • Yearbook Working Group: The PTO members noted that a Yearbook Working Group had been established. It was suggested that a working group member should contact Forever Memories to obtain photographs from all of the students that participated in picture day. It was noted that Forever Memories can copy a disk and provide to the working group. Michelle Gilbert noted that she had researched a couple of options regarding a publishing company for the yearbook and noted that Tree Ring is a potential option that allows parents to contribute some of their own photos for inclusion in the yearbook at a cost of $2 per photo.
  • PTO Newsletter: Heather Miller volunteered to update the PTO Monthly Newsletter and provide to Mrs. Bowling for publication and distribution.
  • Upcoming Fundraisers:Basketball Game Concessions at home games: The PTO is hosting all London Tigers home games. The PTO discussed ways to promote participation. Stephanie Parrett took an action to develop information about the games for distribution to students, parents and guardians.
  • Krispy Kreme: The PTO discussed the Krispy Kreme fundraiser. It was discussed and approved that this fundraiser would be postponed to February 2015. (Motion 1: James Hoskins; Motion 2: Mrs. Blaire)
  • The PTO discussed other opportunities for PTO involvement: It was suggested that the PTO contact the Family Resource Center to inquire about assistance with regarding to supplying winter weather gear, such as gloves and coats to eligible students. Heather Collins suggested participation in a gently used coat drive and referenced opportunities for discounts with local dry cleaning providers.
  • The meeting also included a discussion on the PTO assisting with the student Christmas Party present exchange. (Motion 1: Mrs. Mocahbee; Motion 2: Mrs. Blaire)
  • The PTO received a request to host a 5th grade reception. It was noted that a formal celebration was well received in May 2014. In addition to hosting the reception, it was also requested that the PTO assist with purchasing caps and gowns for qualifying students.

PTO Meeting Schedule: The PTO noted that the next meeting was scheduled for Nov. 10, 2014. Upcoming meeting dates are as follows: Nov. 10, Dec. 8, Jan. 12, Feb. 9, March 9, April 20, and May 11.
