Text: Gen:28 V 16/17: “Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said,Surely the Lord is in thisplace and I did not know it.And he said;”How awesome is this place,this is none other than the house of God and this is the gate of Heaven”.
God wants us to build “An awesome House” that is established and revealed as we enter intoworship and into praise”
The greatest threat to the presence of the Lord is revealed in how we encounter or understand the presence of the Lord. The presence of the Lord is won or lost many times in how we encounter and engage in worship.
The contention of SATAN against the church has its origins in worship.
Ezekiel ch 28 v 13 “The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created” Satan was the “anointed cherub to lead worship in heaven”
We see his desire to gain worship as he contents with Christ in Mathew ch4 v 9
“The devil said to him(paraphrase)”All these things will I give you if you will fall down and worship me”
The power of worship and music in the church has an awesome potential to captivate, free and open the gate and the presence of the Lord(The reverse is also the same).
GOD CALL TO WOSHIP IS FOR ALL BELIEVERS
- Psalm 107 v31 “Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness and his wonderful works to the children of men”
- Psalm 67 v 3”Let the people praise thee O God,let all the people praise thee”
- Psalm 150 v 1 “Praise ye the Lord Praise God in his sanctuary”
Jesus calls us to worship in John 4 v 23 “The hour cometh and now is when true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth”
HINDRENCES TOBIBLICAL WORSHIP
- Lack of understanding
- Lack of biblical knowledge
- Tradition
- Belief that worship is linked to personality
- Unprepared hearts
- Unforgiveness
STYLE OF WOSHIP
Question: Is there a right “style for worship”?
- Styles vary and should vary but the biblical pattern should remain and define the church
- The style of worship that you feel comfortable with says more about your emotional and personality back ground than it does your theology.
- Freshness and the anointing has its foundation in the motive of the heart and the preparation for the worship service
Contentions over worship style normally have their orgins in personal prejudice or an unwillingness to embrace freshness.
