Linear Programming Project Version 1

Project:Linear programming can be used to determine how to allocate limited resources in order to obtain an optimal outcome. Your assignment is to optimize a company’s objective of maximizing profit or minimizing cost. Use “All-In-One” workbook (pg 50, Lesson 3.4) as an example for this project.

Date Due:TBA

Grading:This project will be have a grading weight of approximately one standard test (+/- 10 % of your semester grade)

There will be a check point for the project content. Points will be deducted for any missing items during check points.

Project Content

The following must be contained in your project.

  1. An introductory paragraph, describing the mathematical topic (Ca. Standards) used in working with the project. Indicate the outcome you are trying to optimize.
  2. Identify variables and quantities it represents
  3. Create a table with relationships that involve the variables identified
  4. Provide constraints and label the objective function objective function
  5. Provide the feasible region (on graph paper)
  6. Determine and meet the objective and provide calculated evidence
  7. A one paragraph reflective essay that describes your experience with this project.

Problem:

Flowers Unlimited has two spring floral arrangements, the Easter Bouquet and the Spring Bouquet. The Easter Bouquet requires 10 jonquils and 20 daises and produces a profit of $1.50. The spring Bouquet requires 5 jonquils and 20 daises and yields a profit of $1. How many of each type of arrangement should the florist make to maximize the profit if 120 jonquils and 300 daises are available? (Assume that all bouquets will be sold)

Scoring Rubric

A = 10 / B = 8 / D = 6 / F = 5
