II. CHE Grant Workgroup Updates
· Workgroup #1: Cultural Competence - Jill Savage
o Danna and Roger working on various workshops on CLAS (Cultural and Linguistically Appropriate Services) standards for clinical settings
§ Danna working with 38 agencies across the state
§ Making progress on online training - needs to write script
o Also NE Comp Cancer Plan partnering with NAHLD working on health literacy trainings with cancer centers across the state – focused on how to identify if someone doesn’t understand, they don’t know what they don’t know, sometimes non-compliance is actually because they don’t understand
· Workgroup #2 (): Community Resources/Access Barriers – Lori Vidlak
o CWAH Online Directory available. Still need to input a few entries that Samia compiled through her Community Health Worker training program related to general economic and health assistance. All breast health resources have been added.
o Have Samia’s initial resources inputted in Encounter Registry. Need additional help from Jill Crane at EWM to input CWAH resources into Encounter Registry. Should be able to train all partners to use Encounter Registry, if they are willing to follow rules of use. If they do not wish to use it, the CWAH directory would be the back-up, but Samia’s priority will be to keep the Encounter Registry up to date in the future. If Samia’s health assessment card is distributed and collected at outreach activities, she could enter more people into Encounter Registry for follow-up.
o Have not yet connected with Chris Bleich to assure American Cancer Society database has all appropriate resources from CWAH and Encounter Registry and vice versa
o Have developed simple communications piece for distribution to the general public about connecting with provider for preventive services and paying for those services. Need final approval so can print before June 15th for distribution at Juneteenth. Plan to print back to back with MIYO screening card. Will need to have translation done.
§ Discussed possibility of having ACS help develop a co-branded piece like this for coalition - Tamara to do some checking
o Have discussed potential to train volunteers to help women complete EWM application over the phone (as well as to produce a simple video tutorial for use online). Might be next project for the group. Will need the EWM staff involvement
§ Discussed possibility of utilizing nursing students to help with this – Pastor Janet had example with Wesleyan
§ EWM is running radio ads about “Know Your Insurance”
§
o Next Steps:
§ Answers from Jill Crane to facilitate entries into Encounter Registry
§ Meet with Chris Bleich to assure all pertinent info is in ACS database and appropriate info is in CWAH and Encounter Registry database – by June 30
§ Printing of screening card by June 15; Spanish translation by June 30
§ Train partners (El Centro, Malone, Good Neighbor?) in how to access and use CWAH or Encounter Registry database by July 15
§ Work group needs to meet to further develop strategies to enroll more women in EWM
· Workgroup #3: Provider Education - Tamara Robinson
