Objective

The course is designed to enhance the awareness of the participants in the area of Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM), through introduction and overview of risk management methodologies and their application in SCRM; and also through case study and to share the experience and practise the tools discussed throughout the course.

Learning Outcome

After participated in this course, the participants should be able to:

  1. describe the concept of SCRM;
  2. appreciate the use of various risk management tools and techniques in managing supply chain risks; and

discuss the need, importance and cost-and-benefit of SCRM in enterprises.

Speakers:

Elvin Chan, CEng MIET CBCP ACQI MPA BEng

Mr. Chan is a Senior Consultant of Marsh Risk Consulting. He is a Chartered Engineer in Industrial Engineering and also a Certified Business Continuity Professional of Disaster Recovery Institute International, amember of the Professional Risk Managers’ InternationalAssociation (PRMIA), amember of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (MIET), an Associate of the Chartered Quality Institute (ACQI), a Student Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and a finalist of Hong Kong Certified PublicAccountants Qualification Programme (CPA QP). Elvin has been working in the fields of Supply Chain Management (SCM), Business Continuity Management (BCM) & Corporate Governance (CG) in last decade, integrating his core strength in supply chain and business process design with expertise in business continuity planning & operational risk management to maximize the cost effectiveness of SCM, BCM & CG programmes. Prior joining Marsh Risk Consulting, Elvin was the Manager of Business Planning and Analysis department in a leading telecommunications carrier. He had been engaged in many process & system improvement projects including business process re-engineering, ISO9000 / 20000 / 27000 implementation, Enterprise Resource Planning system implementation, outsourcing and offshoring and Total Quality Management. As a prospective accountant, Elvin has also extensive experience in Enterprise Risk Management & internal control frameworks and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.

Eric Tam, [ARM M. Econ. B. Soc Sc] is an Assistant Vice President at Marsh in the Global Product Risk Practice. This practicespecializes in providing professional consulting services for companies who encounter supply chainrisk, product liability or recall issues. Currently, Eric is assisting international manufacturers anddistributors in managing Asia supply chain risks. Prior to joining Marsh, Eric worked as aConsultant in a leading consultancy firm. Eric is a certified lead auditor in ISO9000 and has richexperience in assisting companies in establishing and implementing quality management systems.He has also engaged in many operation improvement and Business Process Re-engineering projects. Eric has conducteda number of best practice research studies, including Supply Chain Management Benchmarking Study, LocalTransportation and Materials Management Benchmarking Study, Performance Benchmarking Studies (e.g. Toys,Electrical Appliance and Oil Industry), Guidebook on Crises Management and Understanding China’s Business RiskEnvironment, etc.

Medium of instruction and Mode of Conduction

The course will be delivered in English. It will be delivered using an action learning approach combining lecturing, real case sharing, in-class exercises and workshop, and group discussion.
