New Traffic Pattern: Please continue to follow the new traffic pattern that is being used at LMS this year during dismissal times. The new car pattern was instituted to provide safety for everyone.
Parents In Action/School Improvement Council: Looking for a way to get involved? Join administrative and staff representatives at 5:30pm on the 3rd Wednesday of each month to discuss matters of importance at LMS. Hope to see you there!
Response To Intervention (RTI) is a very important part of the educational curriculum at Lewisville Middle School. It provides remedial assistance to some students and enrichment to other students. Response To Intervention training classes are held during the last period on Tuesdays during the school year. It is very important that your child is here to participate in the class. Please do not sign your child out of school during the RTI class time unless it is absolutely necessary. The class time will benefit your child, as well as other children enrolled at Lewisville Middle School.
FROM THE GUIDANCE OFFICE
PSAT is open to any eighth grader interested. This test is great practice for the SAT in high school. The test will be given during the school day on October 17th, and the cost is $15. Preregistration is required. The last day to sign up is Sept. 28th. See Mrs. Hyatt to register or if you have any questions.
Look for your child’s PASS score report! They will be coming home Tuesday, Sept. 4th
Congratulations to Alyson Butler, Rhett Cox, Lauren Crocker, Devin Gaston, Shelly Lovern, and Ja’Qayvious Simpson! These students qualified for the Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIPs) 7th Grade Talent Search. The 7th Grade Talent Search identifies academically talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores (PASS) achieved while attending middle school. These students are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exam as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. Participants gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources for gifted students. Congratulations!
Congratulations to Ashley Gordon, Jarron Dickerson, Baten King, Blake Stroud, Amber Blakemore, Robert Lefevers, Jenna Barrett, Hannah McCallister, Mac Treveiler, Tatiana Fossett, Lauren Crocker, Vivian Vork, Jordan Knox, Alexis Montgomery, and Jada McCrorey! They have been elected as Student Council representatives for their homeroom classes for the 2012-2013 school year.

6TH GRADE TEAM NEWS
On Friday, September 28th, the 6th grade students will be traveling to Charleston, SC. We will plan to depart from the school at approximately 6:00am via charter bus and will return at approximately 10:00pm. While in Charleston, there will be a variety of activities in which the students will participate.
The first location will be Barrier Island. While there, the students will be able to experience the scientific world using all their senses. They will be exposed to lessons in all venues of science including: biology, ecology, conservation, astronomy, botany, and much more! After this memorable event, the students will then venture to the Charleston Museum in which they will be able to explore historic animals throughout the museum. After viewing these wonderful prehistoric animals, students will then be treated to a late dinner before returning to LMS.
We would like for ALL sixth graders to be able to attend this field trip, which costs $80 per child. Therefore, all students were offered the opportunity to sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts which will provide them the chance to earn money towards the price of their trip. Forms for the fundraiser were sent out Monday, August 27th, and students are able to sell doughnuts until the 10th of September, at which time all monies will be due.

7TH GRADE TEAM NEWS
7th Grade students will begin fundraising for their upcoming field trip this month.We will start off by selling school tumblers for $15 each.We will begin this sale on Friday, September 7, 2012, and it will end Monday, September 24, 2012. Then, beginning September 24, 2012 students will sell World’s Finest Chocolate bars for $1 each.We will continue this sale through October 26, 2012.The 7th grade field trip is tentatively scheduled for Friday, November 16, 2012.
8TH GRADE TEAM NEWS
· EXPLORE Test: On October 23rd, 8th graders will take this test to help them make more informed decisions about career clusters in high school.
· September-November: A representative from Hazel Pittman Center will work with 8th grade classes once a week (through Mrs. Pharr’s class) about various topics including smart decisions, study skills, etc.
· All students should return all school paperwork that was given to them on the first day of classes (emergency forms, Internet forms, information update sheets, etc.)
· PSAT Registration Deadline: September 28th
· Try to achieve A’s, B’s, and C’s throughout each 9 weeks marking period as there will be huge incentives (parties, cookouts, etc.) for those students who set high goals this year!!!
COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF CHESTER COUNTY
Through a grant from the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, Communities In Schools of Chester County has been selected to offer services to three sites: Chester Middle School, Chester High School, and Lewisville Middle School.
Communities In Schools envisions a community working together to connect with at-risk and other young adults with resources to help them learn, stay in school and become productive members of society. The primary focus areas are community and school safety, educational enrichment, job development, tutoring and mentoring. Services will be offered to the whole student body as well as other services for students with specific needs.

MEDIA CENTER NEWS
The summer reading program ended when school started. The deadline for turning in summer reading bookshares or book reports is August 31st.The students will receive credit for the books they read during summer, and these will count towards becoming a TEAM READ member.Students will be recognized for participating in the summer reading program in the next few weeks.
TEAM READ will officially open the café onSeptember 5th. In order to become a TEAM READ member, students must read 5 books each nine-week grading period. Students receive a t-shirt and can enjoy the café during their scheduled class time.Last year 7th grade had the most TEAM READ members, so the challenge is on to see which grade level will have the most this year.
Library policies and classes:The students have access to the library before school from 7:30-7:45 to study, research, read, or use the computers. However, we have a limit of 50 students at one time.Each grade level visits the library once a week to borrow books and to learn library skills. It is important that students have their library books with them on their library day. Sixth grade students visit the library on Mondays, Seventh grade on Thursdays, and Eighth grade on Wednesdays. Students can visit the library with a pass from a teacher at any time during the day.Students may borrow 2 books at one time. Students are responsible for their library books and will have to pay for any damages or lost library books.
Coming soon!Yearbooks will go on sale in October.The book fair will be held November 1st–9th this year.
