Pay: / £150 for the first 20 weeks and £175 thereafter if the apprentice is on track with their qualification.
Hours Of Work: / 37 Hours a week. Monday to Friday

Main purpose of the job and key responsibilities: / To provide an efficient multi skilled administration service for the Department. To operate professionally as an individual and as a team member for the benefit of the customer. To ensure that knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and policy is kept up to date to enable accurate, efficient and timely customer service.
The postholder will be required to be flexible and will be expected to work in any Business Support Unit within the Department.
  • To undertake general administration duties as required, including utilisation of computer systems/IT packages, and appropriate record keeping/maintenance or data collation
  • To assist with undertaking research, and drafting of any documentation as required
  • To compose routine correspondence and perform note taking or minute taking as required
  • To provide an efficient and courteous response to telephone enquiries as required
  • To assist and participate in the production and distribution of Departmental information, data and electronic media
  • To support the administration needs across the Department
  • To book meeting rooms and co-ordinate meeting arrangements
  • To assist in ordering and issuing stationery and equipment centrally across the Department
  • To be familiar with courier arrangements and assist with the collection, distribution and receipt of post and mail
  • To deal with electronic scanning or retrieval of information in line with EDRMS
  • To place orders, receipt goods and process invoices for the Department
  • To provide assistance to other members of the team or administrative support to any other manager or staff of the authority as directed
  • To ensure compliance with the Data Protection and Freedom of Information Act. To provide administrative assistance to staff who process Freedom of Information requests or deal with data protection enquiries
  • Process customer complaints and enquiries
  • Provide information to control aspects of the expenditure and income of the Department
  • Check and process applications and enforcement related notices
  • Promote Equal Opportunities and support the Council’s requirements for Diversity
  • Comply with all Health and Safety legislation and Departmental and Corporate Policies
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate for the grade of this post, at any council site, as directed

Personal Qualities and Skills Required: /
  • Intermediate to Advanced Word qualification.
  • Excel and Outlook experience.
  • GCSE Level English or equivalent.
  • Have an understanding of and ability to work in a politically sensitive environment.
  • Knowledge of Local Government and specifically to develop a sound understanding of the services offered by the Department and more general understanding of the rest of the Council and an interest in Environmental issues
  • Confident with a wide range of IT equipment and applications.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to research, analyse and present statistical information.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. To be able to deal with members of the public, colleagues and elected Members in a sensitive and appropriate manner.

This is an Apprenticeship which is government funded for 16 to 24 year olds but open to applicants of all ages.
The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.40 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
