Level 4 Vaults

Level 4 gymnasts showed how important it is to develop a

Rhythmic run. About half would do stutter steps right before they hit the board. Deductions were 60% .3 and 40% .1on the ones that got deducted. It definitely effected their height on the straight jump. But 82% stuck their landings. Only 5 had no deductions on height. Out of those 5, 3 got .1 virtuosity and 2 got .3 in bonus! On arm position 68% had .3 in deductions and the rest had .1 deducted. The rest of the deductions were on body and form.

High score - 15.1

Low score - 12.8

Level 5 Vaults

The front somersault separated the flippers from the floppers. About 90% showed no chest blocking off the board to show lift, tuck, and extension. Bending the knees, low heighth and poor body position were typical deductions. The most common deduction was .3 in 71% of the vaults, 20% were .5 and the rest were .1.So only 24% of dismounts were stuck. Two vaults got .3 in virtuosity for exceptional rise and 3 got .1. This is a critical vault because a front somersault is a basic move in gymnastics!

High score – 15.3

Low score – 12.2

Level 6 vault

68 gymnasts

Nearly all the Handspring vaults showed good basics. Unfortunately most of the deductions came in post-flight. Past vertical release deductions were in 81% of the vaults. Now only 26% of that 81% had bent arm deductions, 42% had bent bodies and 68% of the 81% had bent bodies and bent arms. Lack of rise were in 86% of all vaults. Only 9 were stuck. Scores averaged in the mid 14’s.

High score – 15.2

Low score – 11.8

Level 7 Vaults

23 Gymnasts

I love this vault! But only three vaults were done technically right. Bent body in pre-flight was tipical. Premature piking was also common. Understandably many were rushing the vault. Results were low amplitude, poor position and little or no body extension in over 90% of the vaults. Somehow 6 vaults were stuck and none earned virtuosity. Most scores averaged in the low 14’s. This vault is important because it teaches timing and position while in motion.

High score – 15.0

Low score – 11.4

Level 8 vaults

Level 8 vaults showed only Tsuk tucked vaults and Handspring vaults. The Tsuk vaults need to show more rise in coming off the vaulting table which will help with extension before they land and better landings. Average arm, rise and landing deductions were .5. Practice, practice, practice. There was one Handspring front nicely done. Only one vaulter stuck his landing.

High score – 13.25

Low score – 11.40

Conclusion- Level 8 vaulters should be given a chance to do a 2nd vault. Hand pick a group of about 5 vaults to try to earn bonus. Once again nothing to lose.

Level 9 Vaults

Only 2 gymnasts attempted a 2nd vault and were successful. Many of the vaults were not as flashy as Level 10 so I would encourage more Level 9’s to attempt a 2nd vault because you really have nothing to lose. Most of the deductions were in landings and not showing real extentionout if the vault. Then form and body position deductions showed in many of the vaults too. Vaults performed were Tsuk tuck, pike, Full twist Tsuk, Handsprings, Handspring fulls and one Yurchenco. Only two stuck their vault. More Level 9’s need to attempt a 2nd vault to develop more skill and raise their overall score.

High score – 14.3

Low score – 11.75

Level 10 Vaults

Out of 30 vaulters only 12 attempted a 2nd vault. Two vaulters did not make their 2nd vault. 6 had .4 back in bonus, 2 had .3 and 1 had .2 back. The highest scoring vaulter had .5 back and a total score of 16.2! Many of the vaults were performed technically like they should but once again common deductions were arms, body position and form. The most common vault was a Tsuk tuck done by 33% of the vaulters. 2 Yurchenko’s with 1½ twists and a Tsuk with 2 twists were very impressive! Sprinkle some Handspring fulls, Katsumatsu’s and Yurchenko’s there was a good variety of vaults. 2 vaulters stuck their landings on the 2nd vault. I my opinion the vaulters showed above average skill in performing their vaults.

High score – 16.2

Low sore – 11.35

Elite

Only one Elite vaulted performing a Katsumatsu stretched with a score of 14.3. Vault showed good rise and little execution deductions.
