Introduction to Moodle

Hands-on Exercise for teachers

This exercise is provided for teachers to gain a first hand experience in preparing their Moodle courses.

You need to have the teacher's role in a Moodle course and use this for doing the exercise.

  1. Login Moodle
  2. ► Login HKU Portal at https://hkuportal.hku.hk -> “My eLearning” -> 2. Click to access your Moodle courses, if any
  3. Students (TA) working as designer: http://webct2.hku.hk/webct/servlet/MyElearning
  4. Locate your course MOODmmdd_nn_2011, e.g. MOOD0901_01_2011

You are a teacher of this course

  1. Add a co-teacher
  2. Add HKU Portal account ‘angelawy’ as a co-teacher
  3. ► Select from “My eLearning” of HKU Portal
  1. Access the training course (get training materials and act as a student)
  2. Click Moodle link to enter your course
  3. Click Training course for Moodle on the right hand side of the course home page. You have been added as a student in this Moodle course
  4. Take part in the activities in this training course
  1. Starting with a new course (act as a teacher)
  2. Navigate around the course
  3. Try the functions: Course administration -> Edit settings
  4. Turn editing on
  5. Click the eye button to hide the News forum and then to show it
  1. Course notes
  2. Turn editing on
  3. Create a topic section named “Lesson 1”
  4. Add a resource -> File, Label, Page, URL to your new course
  5. Add an activity -> Assignment
  1. News forum
  2. Rename the “News forum” to “Announcements”

b.  Post an announcement in the News forum

  1. Forum/Discussion board
  2. Add an activity -> Forum
  3. Add a new discussion topic
  4. Switch role to student
  5. Switch to student role
  6. Switch back to normal role
  7. Turn editing off
