Introduction to Moodle
Hands-on Exercise for teachers
This exercise is provided for teachers to gain a first hand experience in preparing their Moodle courses.
You need to have the teacher's role in a Moodle course and use this for doing the exercise.
- Login Moodle
- ► Login HKU Portal at https://hkuportal.hku.hk -> “My eLearning” -> 2. Click to access your Moodle courses, if any
- Students (TA) working as designer: http://webct2.hku.hk/webct/servlet/MyElearning
- Locate your course MOODmmdd_nn_2011, e.g. MOOD0901_01_2011
You are a teacher of this course
- Add a co-teacher
- Add HKU Portal account ‘angelawy’ as a co-teacher
- ► Select from “My eLearning” of HKU Portal
- Access the training course (get training materials and act as a student)
- Click Moodle link to enter your course
- Click Training course for Moodle on the right hand side of the course home page. You have been added as a student in this Moodle course
- Take part in the activities in this training course
- Starting with a new course (act as a teacher)
- Navigate around the course
- Try the functions: Course administration -> Edit settings
- Turn editing on
- Click the eye button to hide the News forum and then to show it
- Course notes
- Turn editing on
- Create a topic section named “Lesson 1”
- Add a resource -> File, Label, Page, URL to your new course
- Add an activity -> Assignment
- News forum
- Rename the “News forum” to “Announcements”
b. Post an announcement in the News forum
- Forum/Discussion board
- Add an activity -> Forum
- Add a new discussion topic
- Switch role to student
- Switch to student role
- Switch back to normal role
- Turn editing off
