Learning Resource Center (LRC)
Programs for Mathematics Courses
Spring 2010
The Learning Resource Center in the First Year of Studies provides Mathematics assistance to all interested first year students free of charge. LRC programs include group tutoring, collaborative learning, and help sessions to assist students with their proficiency in Mathematics. Sessions will be available once a week for two hours beginning the first day of classes. Interested students are asked to inquire at the LRC office (228 Coleman Morse, ) for more information.

Tutoring: The purpose of the tutoring program is to enable first year students to receive assistance from reliable and knowledgeable upper-class level students. The tutors provide instruction in specific content areas in which they have a level of expertise. Tutoring sessions are restricted to small groups of students for enhanced learning.

Collaborative Learning: Small groups of students are clustered by course and section, and work on math homework in an interactive group. In this way, all the students gain valuable ideas from others. Leaders, upper class students who have successfully completed the course, are available to facilitate problem solving and collaboration among group members, and to help when no one in the group can answer a question.

Help Session: The Help Session does not require regular attendance. Its drop-in, question-and-answer format is great for answering questions that come up during the week. It is held every week in 230 Coleman Morse and will begin on September 1, 2009, with the following schedule:

Attendance Policy: Enrolled students are expected to attend tutoring or collaborative learning sessions regularly. If unable to attend a session, call the LRC at 574-631-5294 in order to obtain an excused absence. Three unexcused absences will result in dismissal and readmission cannot be guaranteed.
