Leadership Lancaster ’03 Fall Retreat

Group Effectiveness Dialogue

Best Team

Think about a time when you had a high-point while working in a team. Describe your best team experience.

In dialogue in your group, determine the root causes of success for the “best team” experiences. What was it about:

yourself,

the situation,

the task,

and others that made this a "peak" experience

Next year, your best friend or family member wants to participate in Leadership Lancaster. What would you like to be able to tell them about your team experience?

Leadership

All of us have experienced situations in which leadership (in its many forms, formal or informal, remote or nearby) played a very important part in helping to move things forward, times when the leadership being provided really made a positive difference.

Think back to a time when you worked with someone you considered to be an inspirational leader, no matter what level or position they were.

Who were they?

What did they do that inspired you?

What was your contribution?

What impact did they have on you personally and professionally?

How did they influence or motivate you by their actions?

Next year, your best friend or family member wants to participate in Leadership Lancaster. What would you like to be able to tell them about your team experience?

Conflict Management / Developing Harmonious Working Relationships

Cooperation requires open communication and commitment to a common purpose. It enables people with different interests to work together and find value in shared processes and practices. It allows people and groups to maintain their separate identities, while at the same time contributing to the achievement of a larger purpose.

Think back to a time when you participated in a project that required significant team cooperation, where the success of the project depended upon the quality of that cooperation.

What was the project?

Who was involved?

How did the cooperation come to be?

How did cooperation enable your team to get a superior job done?

What did you value most about the members of the project team?
