PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Last week we held our AGM and it is great that Chris Woods has been appointed President Elect for the 2012-13 Rotary year. I would like to thank Chris for taking up the challenge of being president of this great club of ours, and I hope you all give him all the support he asks for when the time comes.

While thanking Chris, on the 13th November he organised a stand for our club at the Laverton Festival. Unfortunately due to it raining all day the festival was cancelled 30 minutes in. I would like to thank Chris for his efforts in organising the day and Frank for suppling his car again for the stand. Maybe next year it will be better weather.

Our next meeting is a partners night and we have Andrew Cox who is a heart transplant recipient and his wife Tricia, I am looking forward to their presentation on the night and I hope we have a good turn up to hear what should be an inspirational talk.

Remember our Bunnings BBQ on the 4th December, if you have put your name down to do the BBQ please don’t forget to turn up.

As we are now into November remember our toy drive for Christmas. They will not be given to the Salvation Army until our last meeting on the 15th December, but it is never too late to keep an eye out for a bargain. Remember gifts to the value of $10 and unwrapped on the night, there is no better feeling than the feeling of giving to those families less fortunate than ourselves, and giving them a happy Christmas too.

I would like to thank Gordon Clarence for doing a great job on the bulletin last week while our editor Ian Boys is away on holidays. I look forward to seeing this weeks.

Well that’s it for this week.

Remember the Rotary International theme for this year of “Building Communities, Bridging Continents”, and our club theme “Be out be seen”, so let’s work together and have fun.

Michael Nash

SOCIAL & PROGRAMS REPORT

At this week’s partners’ night we have two extraordinary speakers in Tricia and Andrew Cox. Andrew had a heart transplant at quite a young age and has an amazing story to tell. This is a speaker who was referred to me as being outstanding and very memorable. Part of his story is a message on the importance of organ donation.

You only have about a week to book into Torquay for our family weekend away in February from Friday night 11 February to Sunday 13 February. If you don’t book a cabin by 1 December all unbooked cabins in the park will be taken up by another group. Campsites may be available. Contact me if you want an information pack with full details.

Rotary’s Four Way Test
Of things we Think, Say and Do
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER friendships?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned / Rotary Grace
Oh Lord and giver of all good,
We thank you for our daily food.
May Rotary friends, and Rotary ways,
Help us to serve you, all our days. Amen

The Other Page

First of all a big thank you to Gordon for an admiral job on the bulletin for the past 2 weeks; (I now have to work hard to maintain the standard). We had a great holiday in New Zealand the following jokewas told to me at a Rotary meeting in Christchurch North: -

“An Airline in Australia is changing its logo to a Boomerang as it seems they are returning a lot lately”.
