La Salle Retreat Center Policies

We welcome you to La Salle Retreat Center as our guests. Because we have so many guests that come to enjoy the facilities here, we ask that you follow the policies listed below to ensure a pleasant stay for all.

TO THE GROUP LEADERS

Please be aware that there are only 54 rooms available in the West Wing (the dorm) with 3 rooms that have 2 beds. After you have assigned the dorm, you may use 3 rooms in the East Wing (Brothers’ residence). If you have a priest spending the night, he may use Room 3 in the East Wing.

An Information Sheet, sent with your contract, must be filled out along with your contract and updated, if necessary, well in advance of your event. The group leader can call Gerri Schroeder with any questions or if you did not receive a form or would like to give the information by phone.

We ask that you confirm the total number of participants with Gerri Schroeder 10 days in advance of your arrival and keep us posted of any changes.

FOOD SERVICE

Meal times are: Breakfast-8:00 a.m., Lunch-12:00 Noon, Dinner-5:30 p.m. Dinner can be as early as 5p.m. but no later than 5:30p.m. Please call Gerri Schroeder about your meal times before you set your schedule. We strongly encourage you to set your schedule around our meal times AND arrive to meals on time, out of respect for those serving you.

NO food or soda will be allowed in the West Wing (the dorm). You wouldn’t want any uninvited critters! Please wrap tightly any food that you are storing overnight in the Center Building.

There is an ice machine in the Team Room available for your use. A side-by-side refrigerator is available in the Food Storage Room next to the kitchen. Some coolers are available to borrow. Please remember to pick up your food from the refrigerator before you leave.

Please arrange any special dietary needs AHEAD of time with Gerri Schroeder. ANY communication about meals should be made through Gerri.

FACILITY USE

Please be considerate and turn off lights, extinguish candles, and turn off other electronics whenever your group leaves a room. Keep doors and windows closed when either the heat or AC is on. Leaders should ensure that the temperature setting is set conservatively and turn off systems when they leave for a long period or when not using a room. Before retiring for the night, the leader should check to see if EVERYTHING is turned off (including lights and AC) and closed up.

In the warm months, the ventilation in the dorm works best if all the windows are closed and fans including the large fan in the hall are turned off around 9 a.m. and opened and turned on again around 9p.m. The cool air of the night is captured instead of the afternoon heat.

ANY issue that comes up pertaining to the use or maintenance of the facility must be brought to the attention of LaSalle staff. Please do not attempt to repair anything yourself.

All personal property and retreat items brought to the Center must be removed or stored in your group’s storage area before your group departs. LaSalle Retreat Center is not responsible for the loss of, or damage to such property. Lost and found items will only be kept for several weeks after your stay.

The gym can be used with permission and there is a separate fee. It is unavailable from 4 p.m.-9 p.m. on weekdays and during the days on the weekends, due to St. Alban’s use during the school year months. If you would like to use the gym, please call to let us know and we will send you the gym use policies.

ROOM USE

Meeting rooms will be set up in advance IF you let us know what your group needs are. Any rearrangement of tables & chairs during your stay will be handled by your group. Furniture should be left in each room and if it is moved AFTER staff approval, please return it and set each room that you used to its original arrangement. Diagrams of each room’s layout will be available.

A sound system is available for your use. A staff member will provide you with equipment needed and help you learn the system. Items used must be returned to the office.

NO attachments to walls, doors, or ceilings can be made without approval of LaSalle staff. Nothing can be hung from ceiling or ceiling grid. Tape, wire, nails, or adhesives cannot be used, and pictures and wall hangings cannot be moved. Blue masking tape is the only tape that can be used. Please be respectful of the facility.

SAFETY

Candles must be used safely. DO NOT place candles on the floor or low table or any place where they can come into contact with flammables. Candles cannot be used in hallway except in window wells. Please do not move candles that are lit or have not set. ALWAYS extinguish all candles every time you leave the room. NO candle should be lit if no one is in the room.

LaSalle Retreat Center is a non-smoking facility. Smoking is allowed in the portico area, between the Center Building and West Wing, but please use the sand-bucket/ashtray to dispose of butts and cigars.

In compliance with our insurance company, alcohol is not permitted to be served without explicit permission.

By orders of the Fire Marshall all persons in the facility are to report to a single place in case of a fire or fire drill. The designated location is the Stations of the Cross Walkway behind the center building. Please give a room assignment sheet to staff upon arrival. We are required to have a roster with all names and assigned sleeping rooms. Familiarize yourself with the instructions near the door of yourassembly rooms.

PARKING

Please park in the designated areas. There are 2 parking lots around the back…follow the drive until you get to a gravel parking area down the hill. If that is full go to the right to a second parking area on a lower level. Please do not park near the dumpster or in the area near the back door at east end of Center Building…that is designated for the Brothers’ use.

OFFICE NEEDS

Only a small amount of copies can be made on emergency basis. Some supplies like pens, pencils, markers, scissors, etc. are available for your use. Please ask if you need anything.

AFTER HOURS

To contact staff after office hours, please follow the direction on the bulletin board at the phone outside the kitchen. Call the Brothers’ number at 938-6142 or Br. Marvin’s cell phone posted in the hall, which can be used at night in case of an emergency.

AT THE END OF YOUR STAY

Please have your group do the following:

Bring down the sheets, pillowcase, & towels (bath, hand, & wash) and place in correct bins on the first floor. Fold blanket and bed spread and leave mattress pad on bed. Turn off lights and fans and close windows. Please empty water bottles before putting in trash cans and leave trash cans in rooms.

If staying in the Brothers’ Wing, please place sheets and towels on floor in the bedroom.

Have everyone check to be sure all personal items are claimed before you depart.

PLEASE GO OVER THE APPLICABLE POLICIES WITH YOUR GROUP. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.

Please call if you have any questions or updates. I am at your service.
