School Safety
The small procedures add up. Thank you all for working together to maintain a safe school for students, staff, and visitors.
● Visitor check-in and pick-up processes are followed each day. Be kind to our office support staff. They are working diligently to keep you and your children safe.
● Only enter the building through the two front doors.
● Students must be checked in and out in the front office. Be prepared to present ID if you are checking your student out of school. Be prepared to wait. Safe practices take time but it’s worth it!
● Doors are not to be opened by students.

Tardy
Students must be in the classroom at 8:00 a.m. to be on time. If students are not in the classroom when the teacher takes attendance at 8:00 a.m. they are tardy. Buses arrive at school by 7:30. Parent drop off begins at 7:30 a.m. to give students plenty of time to eat breakfast, unpack and prepare for the day.
#choosekind
Dawn Gulledge, Counselor
“If you have a choice between being right and being kind, choose kind."
-Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
This quote by Dr. Dyer set the tone for Wonder, a book about a boy with a craniofacial difference but in its heart and soul is about kindness. The theme of kindness and tolerance made Wonder resonate with so many people around the world. We at Forest Hills Global Elementary have also embraced the theme of kindness and tolerance. From February 12 through March 23, the staff and students at FHGE are competing in The Great Kindness Challenge. For each kind word or random act of kindness, a cotton ball is put into a classroom kindness jar which is later put into our school-wide kindness globe. Here at FHGE we know that every act and word of kindness, no matter how big or small, will make a world of difference.
Reading at Home
Stephanie Tew, Instructional Coach
Reading at home is a great way for students to build their reading skills, knowledge, and their stamina for reading. All students should be reading a “good fit” book each night to develop fluency and comprehension. Students may choose to read a book on their level through RAZ Kids on a computer or an ipad and check their comprehension with a quiz. i-Ready is another way that students can build reading (and Math) skills through their individualized learning path. Students can access their iReady accounts at home on a computer. K-2 students should also practice core words at home with flashcards. Explore the world each night with your child through a book!
