CONSTITUTION OF KURE BEACH FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, INCORPORATED

PREAMBLE

We declare and establish this constitution to preserve and secure the principles of our faith and to govern the body in an orderly manner. This constitution is made to accomplish the following:

  1. Preserve and secure the principles of our faith.
  2. Preserve the liberties of each individual brother and sister of the church.
  3. Ensure freedom of action independent from any religious body or organization.
  4. Provide for orderly conduct of internal affairs and dealing with others, within and outside of the church, and of governing church members.

OVERVIEW

Kure Beach First Baptist Church began as a missionary effort of Carolina Beach First Baptist Church in December 1954 to promulgate the Gospel of Jesus Christ and provide a place where Christians may gather in fellowship to worship God. It was first known as “Kure Beach Baptist Mission” until August 5, 1962 when it developed and approved its own constitution as “Cooperating Baptist Missionary Church”. Later it was reconstituted and on 19 November, 1999 was incorporated as “Kure Beach First Baptist Church, Incorporated”. Since 1954, the mission of the church remains the same as our founders and is the reason for all church activities, meetings, training and services.

NAME OF THE CHURCH

The name of this church shall be Kure Beach First Baptist Church, Incorporated. It shall be affiliated with the Wilmington Baptist Association, the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, and the Southern Baptist Convention.

BUSINESS LOCATION

The address of the principal office of the church shall be 208 South 6th Avenue, Kure Beach, NC 28449.

PURPOSE

It shall be the purpose of the church to reflect the character of God in the individual lives of its members by following Christ as Savior and Lord and to operate and function as a church in all its religious, charitable and educational dimensions including but not limited to the following activities: to advance and promote the worship of God; to engage in and promote the study of the Holy Bible; to advance the gospel of Christ by preaching; to create and nurture the development of Christian fellowship as a nurturing function of the church; to promote the Christian principles of justice and righteousness in personal, social, and community life; to carry on the work of the church in all its spiritual, benevolent, educational, philanthropic, civil and social aspects and activities; to promote the spiritual welfare of all persons; to disseminate the work of God to the people of all nations through evangelistic, educational and charitable missions; and to organize and maintain ministries including but not limited to relief programs, services and other programs which will promote and advance the religious purposes set forth herein.

I ARTICLE OF FAITH

  1. We affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired word of God and the basis for our beliefs. This church subscribes to the doctrinal statement of THE BAPTIST FAITH AND MESSAGE as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000. We voluntarily band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ, personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation to mankind.

This Constitution and Bylaws are consistent and are in accordance with the Southern Baptist Convention’s “2000 Baptist Faith and Message” and all elements of the Kure Beach First Baptist Church, Inc. (KBFBC) governing principles and documents (Articles of Incorporation, Constitution, Bylaws and all Policies and Procedures developed for the operation and management of KBFBC)fully incorporated and adhere to this specific doctrinal declaration.
  1. Any revisions of the above statements of faith shall be reviewed by the Pastor, Deacon Body and Church Council, along with their recommendations, prior to submitting to the church membership for approval to include in the Constitution.

II CHURCH GOVERNMENT

The government of Kure Beach First Baptist Church is vested in its members under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. The membership retains unto itself the right of exclusive self-government in all phases of its life and organization. It recognizes the needs for mutual counsel and cooperation, which are common among Baptist Churches. This church will cooperate with and mutually work with other Baptist Churches, Wilmington Baptist Association, The Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, and the Southern Baptist convention. The church will plan and operate annually on calendar based year beginning January 1 and ending on December 31 each year.

III NON-PROFITAND LIQUIDATION

This church is not organized for profit. In the event of liquidation or dissolution of the church, all assets and property of every nature and description whatsoever shall be transferred at the direction of the trustees to the Wilmington Baptist Association, the Baptist State convention of North Carolina or Southern Baptist Convention, at their discretion.

IV AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION

This Constitution may be amended, provided the proposed amendment shall have been presented in writing to the Church Council and is circulated to the membership at least thirty (30) days prior to a vote. Amendments to this Constitution shall require a vote of two-thirds of the members of the church who are qualified and are present in the business meeting with a quorum to discuss and vote for or against.
