KSS SUPPORT FOR NATIONAL CLINICAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS POLICY
1. Introduction
The Deanery is committed to continuing professional development and seeks to support applications for the national NHS Clinical Excellence Awards Scheme in order to acknowledge and reward the contributions made by those who play a key role in the Deanery's quality management of postgraduate medical and dental education in Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS).
2. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to communicate the objective, fair and equitable process for acknowledging and supporting national clinical excellence rewards to key players within the field of postgraduate medical education in KSS.
3. Scope
This policy applies to medical staff who meet the eligibility criteria outlined within the policy and are currently undertaking a significant educational role within the KSS Deanery network.
4. Aims
- To provide a means of fairly and equitably contributing to the reward of Clinical Excellence Awards for medical staff who have made a significant contribution to the achievements of KSS Deanery and postgraduate medical education in KSS.
- To facilitate and encourage commitment towards continuing professional development and effective leadership amongst the KSS Deanery network.
- To demonstrate the Deanery's wish to promote its inclusive approach to recognising and valuing the contributions of all medical staff, regardless of age, disability, gender, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion, belief or sexual orientation.
- To set out the process to be followed when considering requests for support.
5. Objectives
- To make a positive contribution towards increasing the access of CEAs to medical staff working with the KSS Deanery network.
- To publicise the Deanery's willingness to support CEA awards as a means of improving recruitment and retention of high calibre medical leaders within the KSS Deanery network.
- To promote equality and diversity through recognition and support of applicants from groups who may not have previously considered a management role in medical education.
6. Right of Appeal
As the process is discretionary and includes non-medical representation, there is no right of appeal and the decision of the panel is final.
7. Equality and Diversity
All applicants will be required to complete an equality and diversity monitoring form so that we can monitoring the outcomes and review any potential bias or inequity.
