Song of Gathering November 16, 2008

Come Boldly to the Throne of Grace

Words by D. Herbert, 1838; Music by Brian T. Murphy and Clint Wells, 2004

Come boldly to the throne of grace,

Ye wretched sinners come;

And lay your load at Jesus' feet,

And plead what He has done.

"How can I come?" Some soul may say,

"I'm lame and cannot walk;

My guilt and sin have stopped my mouth;

I sigh, but dare not talk."

Come boldly to the throne of grace,

Though lost, and blind, and lame;

Jehovah is the sinner's Friend,

And ever was the same.

(Chorus)

He makes the dead to hear His voice;

He makes the blind to see;

The sinner lost He came to save,

And set the prisoner free.

Come boldly to the throne of grace,

For Jesus fills the throne;

And those He kills He makes alive;

He hears the sigh or groan.

Poor bankrupt souls, who feel and know

The hell of sin within,

Come boldly to the throne of grace;

The Lord will take you in.

(Chorus)

Welcome and Announcements

Meditation Ephesians 1:3-7

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined usfor adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will,to the praise of His glorious grace, with which He has blessed us in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace

Call to Worship Psalm 24

Leader: The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof,the world and those who dwell therein,for He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.

People: Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in His holy place?

Leader: He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully.

People:He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of His salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.

Leader: Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.

People: Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!

Leader:Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.

People: Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory!

Songs of Praise

In Christ Alone

Words and Music by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend, 2001

In Christ alone my hope is found;

He is my light, my strength, my song;

This cornerstone, this solid ground,

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.

What heights of love, what depths of peace,

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!

My comforter, my all in all—

Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, Who took on flesh,

Fullness of God in helpless babe!

This gift of love and righteousness,

Scorned by the ones He came to save.

Till on that cross as Jesus died,

The wrath of God was satisfied;

For ev'ry sin on Him was laid—

Here in the death of Christ I live.

2

There in the ground His body lay,

Light of the world by darkness slain;

Then bursting forth in glorious day,

Up from the grave He rose again!

And as He stands in victory,

Sin's curse has lost its grip on me;

For I am His and He is mine—

Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death

This is the pow'r of Christ in me.

From life’s first cry, to final breath,

Jesus commands my destiny.

No pow'r of hell no scheme of man,

Can ever pluck me from His hand.

'Til He returns or calls me home

Here in the pow'r of Christ I stand.

Jesus Messiah

Words and Music by Chris Tomlin, Ed Cash & Jesse Reeves, 2008

He became sin who knew no sin
That we might become His righteousness
He humbled Himself and carried the cross
Love so amazing, love so amazing

(Chorus)
Jesus Messiah, Name above all names
Blessed Redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners
The ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all

His body the bread, His blood the wine
Broken and poured out all for love
The whole earth trembled and the veil was torn
Love so amazing, love so amazing

Chorus

All our hope is in You
All our hope is in You
All the glory to You, God
The Light of the world

Chorus

Responsive Reading Ephesians 5:25-32

Leader: Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,

People: that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,

Leader:so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.

People: In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

Leader: For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church,

People: because we are members of his body.

Leader:“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

People:This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.

Assurance of Pardoning Grace Ephesians 2:4-5

ButGod, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.

Song of Assurance

The Power of the Cross

Words and Music by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend, 2005

Oh, to see the pain written on Your face,

Bearing the awesome weight of sin

Ev'ry bitter thought, ev'ry evil deed

Crowning Your bloodstained brow

(Chorus)

This, the pow'r of the cross: Christ became sin for us;

Took the blame, bore the wrath—We stand forgiven at the cross

Now the daylight flees; now the ground beneath

Quakes as its Maker bows His head

Curtain torn in two, dead are raised to life;

"Finished!" the vict'ry cry

(Chorus)

4

Oh, to see my name written in the wounds,

For through Your suffering I am free

Death is crushed to death; life is mine to live,

Won through Your selfless love

This, the pow'r of the cross: Son of God—slain for us.

What a love! What a cost! We stand forgiven at the cross

Love Me Freely

Words by Charles Wesley, 1707-1788, Music by Robert Turner, 2008

Jesus, Friend of sinners hear

A feeble creature pray

From my debt of sin set clear

For I have naught to pay

Speak O speak my kind release

A poor backsliding soul restore

Love me freely, seal my peace,

And let me rove no more

Though my sins as mountains rise

And swell and reach to heaven

Mercy is above the skies

And I shall stand forgiven

Mighty is my guilt’s increase

But greater is Thy mercy’s store

Love me freely, seal my peace,
And let me rove no more

From the oppressive weight of sin

My struggling spirit free

Blood and righteousness divine

Can rescue even me

Holy Spirit shed Thy grace

And let me feel the softening shower

Love me freely, seal my peace,

And let me rove no more

Prayer for the Kingdom

Song of Response

Jesus with Thy Church Abide

Words: Thomas Pollock, 1997; Music: Christopher Miner, 1997

Jesus, with Thy church abide;

Be her savior, Lord, and Guide,

While on earth her faith is tried:

We beseech Thee, hear us,

We beseech Thee, hear us.

Keep her life and doctrine pure;

Grant her patience to endure,

Trusting in Thy promise sure:

We beseech Thee, hear us,

We beseech Thee, hear us.

May she one in doctrine be,

One in truth and charity,

Winning all to faith in Thee:

We beseech Thee, hear us,

We beseech Thee, hear us.

May she guide the poor and blind,

Seek the lost until she find

And the brokenhearted bind:

We beseech Thee, hear us,

We beseech Thee, hear us.

Benediction
