Communication Coordinator
Part-time/fulltime (80% -100%) for an indefinite period
KIYO stands for "Kids & Youth”. All children and youth.
KIYO is an NGO (nongovernmental organization) for development recognized by DGD (Director General for Development Cooperation) and since 1977 fighting for the rights of the most vulnerable children. KIYO pays priority attention to children who are least able to protect themselves and teach them to stand-up for their rights through partnerships in the South and awareness razing in Belgium. This way KIYO contributes to an increased international solidarity for the realization of the rights of the child. KIYO also works in close collaboration in a consortium with Geneeskunde Derde Wereld / Medicine Tiers Monde (G3W-M3M) (right to health) and Solidagro (right to food) to stand up for the human rights in the broader sense and to promote the right based approach in development cooperation.
In the coming years, KIYO wants to expand and strengthen her support base which allows to diffuse and multiply her children's rights mission, improve the notoriety of KIYO in an effective way and create greater support for the right based approach. To support these strategic and operational goals and growth of the organization, KIYO is looking for a Communication Coordinator.
Job description
The Communication coordinator leads up the communication strategy and its operationalization in order to contribute to the ambitious growth of KIYO. He/she coordinates and monitors the consistency of the message and operationalizes the various communication materials and channels. He/she reports to the program manager of KIYO and works closely with the regional offices and partnerships of KIYO. KIYO is looking for someone with experience in strategic communication and excellent writing skills.
Responsibilities
• You coordinate the formulation and implementation of the communication strategy of KIYO with the aim to broaden the support base of KIYO and strengthen, increase the notoriety of KIYO and spread the mission of children’s rights.
• You formulate clear objectives and outputs in terms of communication in an annual action plan and realizes them. You monitor the parallelism and manage the integration of joint campaigns with our partners.
• You stimulate and monitor the adhesion in the team and the coherence of the message in the various departments, projects and communication channels of KIYO. You ensure 360° communication in the different media.
• You update the communication charter of KIYO and implements it.
• You produce different communication materials for and about KIYO and its projects. You coordinate and coach volunteers and interns to support you in the production of visual and communication materials.
• You coordinate the dissemination of the message of KIYO in the press and media.
• You take care of the social media of KIYO (website, Facebook, twitter, newsletter, petitions ...)
• You organize awareness razing events.
• You support the fundraising department of KIYO.
• You coordinate and manage the communication teams in the South by formulating clear goals and you process the collected data to the necessary communication materials.
• You coordinate and manage your colleagues in Belgium by setting clear objectives in terms of communication within their projects and you process the collected data to the necessary communication material. You will work closely with other departments, project managers and collaborations;
• You frame engaged youth who are committed to contribute in spreading the message of KIYO on their initiative.
• You actively participate in the various relevant working groups with partners and networks in the field of communications and joint campaigns.
Profile
• You have a master degree in communication management, communication sciences, strategic communications, journalism, marketing or equivalent experience;
• You have at least 10 years relevant experience. Experience within the NGO sector is a plus;
• You can easily motivate and inspire people. You own persuasiveness, persistence and a certain amount of courage. You've already proven to be someone who can optimize the engagement, retention and loyalty of support base, volunteers and grassroots.
• You have excellent editorial, copywriting skills.
• You have strong communication skills: you can bring a positive message, recruiting and motivating. You use your talents to improve communication with the grassroots.
• You have commercial (marketing) skills and combines them with a warm heart for children’s rights & development
• You have demonstrable experience in management or coordination, you have organizational skills. You can work efficiently and effectively.
• You can translate the vision and strategy of KIYO into an accessible and convincing 360° communication
• You have a good feel about what KIYO needs and relies on facts to make decisions;
• You have experience with strategic thinking. You're good at thinking critically and analytically.
• You have experience or affinity in working with volunteers and youth.
• You are creative and innovative
• You have an excellent knowledge of social media and funding platforms. Knowledge of design programs and image processing is a plus.
• You have excellent language skills of Dutch, French and English. Knowledge of Portuguese is an asset.
• You have relations in the field of communication and/or media that can be sourced.
• You are sociable, positive attitude and confident
• You are abound of rights and children's rights, you can make it tangible, and sell it with enthusiasm
• You can come 'to the point' and enter into new partnerships
