Journeyman Certified Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic

Scope of Work:

The Employee agrees that he is to perform the following tasks as Journeyman Certified Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic located at Syncrude Canada Ltd, Mildred Lake Site & Aurora Site and Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.

Heavy Duty Mechanic: The Employee agrees that he has the Certification, knowledge and expertise and training to carry out the following tasks as Heavy Duty Mechanic.

Perform maintenance and repair activities on various pieces of heavy equipment as well as heavy-duty truck and semi tractors.

  • Diagnosis, services and repairs various systems that are found on heavy equipment and trucks such as mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions, computer controlled automatic and 13 speed manual transmissions.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions in the equipment and performs repair.
  • Repairs and services track drive sprockets, rails, idler wheels, hard bars, track adjusters, hydraulic reversals, final drives, brake bands, steering clutches and hydrostatic transmissions. Performs routine maintenance checks and adjustments on such things as fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches; changes filters and oil, and lubricates vehicles and motor driven equipment.
  • Services, diagnoses, repairs and maintains speed tandem axel with air or electric shift, hydrostatic driven, heavy duty multi-axel suspensions, both conventional steel or air springs. Overhauls engines, replaces engines, and rebuilds components.
  • Maintains service logs and records of maintenance on all heavy duty trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Prepares work orders and cost material estimates.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
  • Fabricate needed parts or items.
  • Assemble gear systems, and align frames and gears.
  • Research, order, and maintain parts inventory for services and repairs.
  • Adjust and maintain industrial machinery, using control and regulating devices.
  • Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, and keep equipment service records.
  • Operating safely and driving to conditions.
  • Operate various makes and models of Equipment. Complete walk around, safety checks, and FLRA and ensure the equipment is running properly.
  • Report any damage or repairs to the maintenance team or supervisors.
  • Operate equipment to standards, procedures and practices. Report all incidents, damage and near misses immediately.
  • Operate a steam trailer and/or Truck.
  • Communicate updates to supervisor to ensure goals will be met.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and keep the truck clean.
  • Provide on-site steaming of all heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Provide on the job training to other employees and new hires when requested.
  • Ensure proper logs are maintained of condition and location of equipment for proper shift hand-over. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Required to operate trucks in a safe manner in congested and confined areas.
  • Keeps tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
