KCYLL Scorekeeper Guidelines
Home Team Provides Scorekeepers who should meet with the Field Manager fifteen minutes before the start of the game to be given the score sheet, clipboard, and pen, if needed, as well as the game rosters received from each head coach.
1. Rosters. Coaches are required to provide the Bench Official and the opposing coach with the game roster for that game fifteen minutes before the start of the game. The roster provided will identify the starting attack designated as the at home. Failure to provide the game rosters will result in an illegal procedure penalty. Should the lack of roster result in a 5 minute or more delay in the start of the game, the offending team will be charged with a three minute non-releasable conduct penalty to be served by the in home attack.
2. Pre-Game Entries. Before the start of the game, the Scorekeeper should record the names of the teams playing in the game, the date and field location of the game, and his/her name in the space provided on the form as well as the name of the person designated by the visiting team as the time keeper. The Scorekeeper should enter each player’s jersey number on the score sheet with the starting attack player designated as the in home as the first line, and the starting goal keeper on the last line. Names can be added as time permits.
3. Eligibility. The Bench Official will have available the team rosters of the teams playing that game to resolve any questions about a player’s eligibility.
4. Scores. Once the game starts, the score keeper is required to accurately record goals scored with a hash mark next to the player’s name and a slash mark on the running score line. Questions about who scored should be directed either to the near side official or the coach of the team scoring the goal.
5. Fouls. The Scorekeeper is also required to record personal fouls assessed against a player. A personal foul is one with a penalty time of one minute or more and will usually be announced as such by the officials. Only personal fouls are recorded. Technical fouls are not recorded on the score sheet. It is possible with a player to be assessed with more than one foul, e.g. a tripping foul followed by a slash. All personal fouls must be recorded. The Scorekeeper should make sure he/she has the name of the penalized player from the official before play is resumed.
6. Foul Out Warning and Fouling Out. Once a player has been charged with two personal fouls during the game, the Scorekeeper should advise the coach of that player that the player has two fouls. Fouling Out. Under KCYLL rules, a player assessed a third personal foul is disqualified from further competition in that game. Once a player has been identified as having three fouls, the Scorekeeper should advise the official and the coaches that the player has fouled out of the game and note FO next to the player’s name.
7. 4 Goal Differential. Should one team obtain a 4 goal or more advantage over the other, the Scorekeeper should advise the near side official of the differential. The official will then ask the team behind in the score whether they elect to face off or take possession without a face off. Once the margin is less than four, the official should be so advised.
8. Team Time Outs. Each team is permitted two time outs during each half and one during each overtime period. These time outs should be recorded in the spaces provided by a slash through the number.
9. Verifying Entries. At the conclusion of each period, the Scorekeeper and Timekeeper should confirm the score and number of fouls between themselves and with the officials who should also be tracking the score. Any disagreement in the score or fouls should be raised with the Field Manager.
10. Player Ejection Any player ejected from the game by an official should be noted on the form in the space at the bottom of the form under the signature block. The notation should contain the player’s number, name and reason for the ejection given by the officials.
11. Certification of Score Sheet. At the conclusion of the game, the score keeper should sign the form in the space designated and obtain the signatures of the Timekeeper and game officials and give the form to the field supervisor.
