The theme this year, Reading Accelerates Success, is very exciting as we encourage our students to ‘reach for the stars!” We want students to ‘shoot for the moon’ as they become successful readers. Our mission is for students to make the connection between literacy success and the many career paths available to them, including careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. To this end, we have a very exciting week of learning and fun planned for our Westside Panthers!

Ongoing District/School Events / *AR Challenge- For the top AR reader in each class, we will have a pizza lunch with the Media Specialist, Instructional Coach, and Principals.
These students will also be entered into a drawing for $25 for the Top Reader in each grade.
*Bookmark Contest- Students are invited to design a bookmark that shows how “reading accelerates success”. The winning bookmark in each class will be copied and distributed in our media center.
*Door decoration- Each class is invited to celebrate a favorite book by decorating their classroom doors to represent the book.
*Teacher book picks- Teachers are invited to display their favorite books in the cafeteria to show the students that they love reading too.
*Student book picks- While in the media center, each student write a summary about their favorite book and why they recommend it to other students.

January 30 / Dress as your favorite character! Day- On this day, students and staff will come to school dressed as their favorite character to celebrate the joys and love of reading.

Book Drive. We will offer a lollipop to students that bring a book to donate to our classroom libraries.

Students will guess the name of the book and send their answer up to the front office at the beginning of first period. Drawing will be done of all of the right answers.
