We are seeking a retail-Savvy Assistant Buyer who will assist the Sr. Buyer in driving the growth of our business. In this role you will assist with all functions of the merchandising process. Develops a working knowledge of the buying function including merchandise sourcing, selection, negotiation, vendor relations, and pricing in order to meet and exceed the customers’ expectations on selection and pricing.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops an understanding of the target customer profile and the competitive landscape by researching and monitoring market trends, new product ideas, and competition.
  • Maintains vendor portal; processes quotes, confirms accuracy of information, and communicates with vendors.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with both domestic and international vendors.
  • Assists the Sr. Buyer in assortment and category planning, building spreads, concepts ideas.
  • Assists with catalog pagination and catalog rebuilds.
  • Participates with the Sr. Buyer in brainstorming sessions and book closings.
  • Writes accurate copy specifications that highlight product features; proof reads copy.
  • Organizes and maintains merchandise information including quotation sheets, sourcing memos, and trip planning/schedules and sample follow-up.
  • Provides final inspection and approval of photo samples ensuring correct specifications.
  • Participates in final negotiations to ensure that target costs and margins are met.
  • Develops and sources ideas that follow customer trends.
  • Assists in training new associates within the department.
  • Participates in all creative film reviews.
  • Prepares reports and presentations associated with post mortems as required.
  • Completes regular product analysis by reviewing product trends and sales.

The ideal candidate has a track record of successful relationship management, strong analytical acumen, and experience generating and managing reporting and analysis. Great communication skills will be essential to your success. Our environment is fast-paced, and requires someone who is flexible, detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working with multiple teams, vendors, partners, and management under minimal supervision.

In this role you will be responsible for maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

This individual will have frequent interaction with Executives, Product Designers, Quality Control, Marketing, Inventory, and Creative teams.You will have requent interaction with outside vendors both domestically and internationally.

**Some local travel may be required to attend trade shows or competitive shops.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Merchandising, Marketing, or related field highly preferred.
  • Previous retail or related experience desired; experience in the gift, home, garden, toy, and seasonal markets preferred.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite of products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
