JUDSON COLLEGE

On behalf of the students we serve, Judson College expresses its sincere gratitude for the support of Alabama Baptists through the Cooperative Program in making possible Christian higher education for young women. The work of Judson and our sister Alabama Baptist institutions of higher education are sustained through the generosity of our churches, alumnae and friends.

Judson founding president, Milo P. Jewett, sought two characteristics above all others for Alabama’s only women’s college: genuine academic quality and that it be of Christ. Founded in 1838, Judson celebrated her 175th anniversary this past year. With the themeLight and Truth: From Generation to Generation, the college welcomed alumnae, friends, students, faculty and staff to multiple events throughout the year. One such event was the hosting of the Alabama Supreme Court, which held session on the Judson campus in November. Presidingfor the session was Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore. The Court heard two cases, one of which was argued by Judson alumna Rhonda Pitts Chambers.

During the 175th anniversary year, the Judson Singers performed at Carnegie Hall in New York. Selected music included the world premiere of choral music composed and conducted by Judson visiting Professor of Music, Dr. Terre Johnson. World renowned composer and conductor, John Rutter, conducted Judson’s choir, along with others, in Mozart’s Requiem.

Among other events held during the year, Judson was pleased to welcome as seminar leader Dr. Stephen Donaldson, Associate Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Samford University, who presented The Gift of Reason: Exploring Intersections of Science and Biblical Faith. The seminar challenged students to grow in their understanding of the relationship between Christianity and the sciences. Academic Dean, Dr. Scott Bullard, noted that, “Dr. Donaldson helped our students see that science, far from being a threat to religion or personal faith, is a gift from God to humankind....”

In June, Judson received accreditation for the Bachelor of Social Work program from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Accreditation by the CSWE enables graduates to sit for the Board of Social Work Examiners licensing exam. Completion of Judson’s accredited program makes them eligible for advanced standing in Master of Social Work (MSW) programs.

In a study conducted by Affordable Colleges Online, Judson was recognized as one of the most affordable programs in Alabama. In this national study of 2,000 colleges and universities, Judson’s program received high marks for its affordability, quality and flexibility.

For the sixth year in a row, Judson was included on the President’s Community Service Honor Roll. Some 85 percent of Judson’s students participate annuallyserving and ministeringin Perry County and around the world.
