JRC012201- Start-up Law Academy - $10,000.00

The Justice Resource Center (JRC) provides services for schools to start a law academy program. The instructional program services include curriculum, course sequences, professional development and technical support at the school site. Included in a law academy is the opportunity to participate in law-related applied learning activities such as Moot Court, mock Congressional simulations, and numerous opportunities for interaction with the legal community. Through JRC services, students will be exposed to careers in law-related professions and post-secondary education.

Interdisciplinary law-related courses are available upon request.

What does this Justice Resource Center program provide?

Instructional Component

Curriculum
The JRC will provide and/or work with schools to develop curriculum for each age group and law-related class. Interdisciplinary and ELL materials will be provided. / Student Activities
The JRC will provide students with the opportunity for competitions, Mock Congressional simulations, public policy portfolios, and field visits to court. / Enhancement to Classroom Learning
The JRC will assist with guest speakers and career day.

Services

Consultation
The JRC will provide program facilities planning, VTEA proposal support, alternative sources of funding opportunities, and budget consultation. / Technical support
Staff at the JRC will provide teachers with technical support with implementation of program components. / Law firm partner
The JRC will endeavor to identify a major law firm to work with the school to support the development of the law academy.

Support

On-site program support
Staff will make periodic site visits and assist with involving parents and the school community with implementation. / Professional Development
Teachers will be offered professional development sessions in using the law-related education, active classroom, methodology. / Meetings
Teachers will meet regularly with JRC staff and will be invited to the JRC citywide law cluster meetings.

How do I purchase internal services?

§  In Galaxy, create a new line for object code 0998, Internal Services and schedule the appropriate funds. Please note that funds will be available in FAMIS after approximately 24 hours.

§  Log into FAMIS.

§  Go to Purchasing.

§  Go to Contracted.

§  Go to E-Catalog.

§  Click Internal Services and enter your school-specific budget information as prompted.

§  Enter the Item Number (above) for the service you would like to purchase.

§  Completing the purchase order sends a request for the service directly to the internal service provider.

§  The internal service provider must approve your service request before funds are encumbered.

Cancellation Policy

§  To receive a refund, schools must cancel their purchase order within one week of JRC approving it in FAMIS. An administrative fee will be charged for each cancelled purchase order.
