1.Limitoncourses.Undergraduatestudentsarelimitedtoatotalof12hoursofstudyelsewhereaftertheymatriculatetoLoyola.Thisincludesthosewhomatriculateasfreshmenorastransferstudents.However,transferstudentswhotransferredinwith60ormorehoursmaynottakeanyadditionalcourseselsewhere.

2.StudyAbroadexception.Studentsmayreceivepriorapprovalfortakingmorethan12hoursfromanotherinstitutionwhentheyhavebeenapprovedtoparticipateinaLoyola-sponsoredstudyabroadogram.

3.Priorpermissionrequired.Studentsmustobtainpermissiontotakeacourseatanotherinstitutionpriortoenrollinginsuch.Priorpermissionwillbegrantedbyadvisorsordean/chair/directorasoutlinedbelow.

4.Summerstudy. StudentswhowishtotakecoursesduringsummersessionaretobeencouragedtotakesummercoursesofferedatLUC.

a.PriorpermissionmaybegrantedtotakeacourseatanotherinstitutiononlyifacomparablecourseisnotofferedduringLUC'ssummersessions.(Financialreasons(e.g.courseislessexpensiveatJCCthanatLUC)alonearenotsufficientforapproval.)

b.Anacademicadvisormayapprovecoursestofulfillelectivecredits.Adean,chairperson,orprogramdirectormayapprovecoursestofulfillmajor/minorrequirementsorelectiveswithinmajor/minorrequirements.

5.Corecurriculumcredits.BecauseofthenatureofLoyola'snewoutcomes-baseduniversitycorecurriculumandthepedagogicalintegrationoflearningonknowledge,skills,andvalues,allCoreclassesmustbetakenatLoyola.SpecialcircumstancesforgrantingexceptionstothispolicywillbetheresponsibilityoftheDirectoroftheCoreCurriculum.

6.Completingarequestforapproval.Inallcases,thestudentandtheacademicadvisor(ordean/chairperson/director)mustcompletetheform:"Permissiontotakeanon-LoyolaCourse" on the following page.Thestudentshouldmeetwiththeiracademicadvisortodiscussrequestsforpermissiontotakecoursesatanotherinstitutioninthesummer.Theform can be completed electronically andmustbesubmittedintimeto securepermissionpriortoenrollingisacourseatanotherinstitution.
