SCOPE

The primary responsibility of the Full-Time PTI/Sports Coach is to assist in the running and administration of the Physical Training, Sports and General Activities programme.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • To deliver and develop components of Year 12 and Year 13 Physical Training
  • To support students to reach their full potential in the Welbeck Fitness Assessment (WFA)
  • Test, monitor and review students fitness performance and set individual targets where necessary
  • To be responsible for the coaching and administration of at least two sports during Wednesday and Saturday Sports Sessions
  • To be responsible for the coaching and administration of at least one General Activity session
  • To assist with the supervision and management of the CV and Weights room
  • To assist with general departmental administration where required
  • To assist with other Sports and General Activities as required
  • To attend fixtures (both home and away) with College teams as required
  • To undertake any other reasonable duty related to the job purpose required from time to time by the Head of Co-Curriculum

GENERAL DUTIES

  • To be responsible for your own welfare by following the Health, Safety and Environmental Policy and other related policies such as Equality, Anti-Bribery & Corruption, Harassment, Public Disclosure “Whistle-blowing” and Data Protection etc
  • Execute the responsibilities of your role according to standards as set out in the Code of Conduct and Staff Handbook

Management/Communication

  • To communicate honestly with your Line Manager
  • To be responsible for your own time and attendance at work
  • To achieve deadlines/targets that have been set by your Line Manager
  • To work within the departmental budget and assist in the control of costs
  • To assist your Line Manager to implement change within the department

 To communicate and liaise with all other departments, as required

Reviews

  • Take responsibility for personal Continued Professional Development and lifelong learning
  • To participate in reviews, as and when required with your immediate Line

Manager

Training & Evaluation

  • To ensure that you receive and agree training that has been identified
  • To effectively utilise new skills from any training

Responsibilities

  • To promote the College’s vision, mission and strategic objectives
  • To assist in achieving/maintaining the IIP standard
  • To be aware of Health and Safety at Work Regulations and environmental issues and to be aware of actions necessary in cases of accident or fire
  • To keep your work area clean and safe
  • To act as an ambassador for the College and ensure your behaviour and work supports the College’s demands for excellence

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • Relevant Sports Degree, or equivalent level qualification
  • NGB Level 2 Coaching qualification in at least one sport
  • Coaching experience
  • Full Clean Driving Licence
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable:

  • Fitness Instructing Level 2, or equivalent qualification

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Ensure all students undertake a comprehensive physical training programme
  • Ensure 95% of medically fit students pass their Welbeck fitness assessment
  • Ensure all students participate in organised individual or team sports at least twice per week
  • Ensure all students and staff received induction sessions into the College weights and CV room

RELATIONSHIPS

The PT Instructor/Sports Coach will be expected to demonstrate excellent inter-personal skills and form highly effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external staff including:

  • All College staff both TQ and IDL
  • Sports Staff from other Schools and Colleges
