Duration 10 Months initially

Purpose of Job

To assist with the planning and delivery of an effective training programme for NDL. To coach the players according to the annual programme and liaise with other coaches and managers for the long and short term development of the players.

Key Accountabilities

  • To assist with the preparation of annual, monthly and session based plans which should be communicated within the set time frames as led by the Head Coach.
  • To attend all NDL sessions
  • Provide feedback on programme to the Head Coach and RDM (SW&G) for the NDL annual report
  • Provide players with playing information and technical feedback
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to players
  • To coach within the programme
  • Liaise with NDL Head Coach to organisation and collect equipment for training / matches
  • Report disciplinary issues to the NDL Head Coach
  • Adhere to codes of conduct and provide a positive role model to staff and players.

Key Performance Areas

  • Assist in creation of NDL Rugby plan and coaching sessions using SWRU Syllables
  • To plan and deliver coaching sessions within the programme as directed by the Head Coach
  • 6 NDL days
  • 1 NDL tournaments
  • 3 planning meetings a season
  • Talent Identification through NDL and sign posting players to appropriate trials/ informing SWRU PDM

Person Specification

Role Title: National Development League (NDL) Assistant Coach
Factor / Essential / Desirable
Qualifications & Attainments / Driving License or means of transport
UKCC Level 1 or equivalent, or working towards the same. / UKCC Level 2 or equivalent, or working towards the same.
Experience & Knowledge / Knowledge and understanding of Rugby Union and the development of players new to the sport.
Recent and relevant coaching experience of groups of players with mixed ages and abilities.
Recent and relevant youth coaching experience.
Ability to write effective coaching plans
IT skills & experience
Confident in presenting to all levels of audience.
Track record of effectively working within a team. / Recent and relevant experience of coaching female players.
Knowledge and understanding of LTPD Principles.
Track record of working effectively with partners.
