Job Summary

The Major Gift Executive will be part of a team responsible forbuilding relationships with new and existing supporters with a view to generating gifts of £5K+. They will be responsible for cultivating and managing a portfolio of individual and trust donors as well as prospecting new donors.They will assist the Senior Major Gift Manager in developing new strategies for major donor giving in order to reach team targets. They will also prepare and coordinate cultivation events and donor communications to support the team strategy.

Duties and Responsibilites

1. Building relationships with existing and new trust and major individual donors

Identify, cultivate and manage a portfolio of up to 120 qualified trust and individual prospects and donors across the UK (and potentially overseas) who have the capacity to make gifts of £5K+. Design and implement tailored solicitation plans for each donor to increase their involvement with and commitment to the charity.

Contribute to and deliver against annual plans and targets for the Major Gift Team.

Manage a calendar of approaches and donor interactions, ensuring that donors’ timetables are met. This will range from meeting formal trust deadlines for the submission of applications to understanding the best time to approach an individual donor in the context of their decision making about charitable giving. Maintain awareness of changes in donors’ requirements, for example trust guidelines.

Initiate contact with donors through face-to-face meetings, telephone calls, events, written communications and project visits to meet a target goal of at least 70 face to face meetings per year.

Producewell written project proposals, briefings and pitches and make ‘asks’ in writing or in person as appropriate and with the support and guidance of the Senior Major Gift Manager(s) where necessary.

Ensure that all donations are processed, acknowledged and thanked appropriately and efficiently.

Maintain stewardship contacts providing regular project feedback/communication(quarterly) to donors and produce project reports (including as a minimum one annual update report per donor).

Manage a portfolio of large and small solicitation and stewardship events working with other teams, ensuring that they run effectively, are well planned and marketed through the development of invitations and guest lists.

Prepare and write appropriate solicitation plans for prospects involving volunteers appropriately.

Work as ‘one charity’ within and across teamsto support the solicitation of major gifts and in utilising the charities extensive networks for endorsements and solicitations.

2. Undertaking Prospect Research

Identifying, researching and evaluating high-net-worth individuals and trusts and using appropriate systems to manage this information.

Building profiles on potential donors to capture theircapacity and propensity for giving.

Keep up-to-date on donor giving trends and fundraising strategies and ensure that all fundraising activities comply with legal requirements.

3. Developing and managing key relationships inside MCCC:

Work with the Chief Executive and other members of the Senior Management team to ensure that they are appropriately briefed and supported when planning and executing approaches to prospective and existing major donors.

Work with trustees, high level volunteers and patrons to draw on their networks and mobilise introductions.

Liaise with other teams (centrally and regionally) to source and generate new leads

Work with colleagues in Caring Services and ‘link projects’ to identify new project, endorsement and funding opportunities.

4. Support the Major Gift Team strategy

Provide reports and information about activity, forecasting and current performance, supporters, volunteers etc as necessary and upon request

Own your part in our success, taking responsibility for your own work and contributing ideas and strategies for the successful implementation of Marie Curie’s major gift programme.

Support and manage key elements of the Major Gift Team strategy as required.

Maintain accurate records of relationship history on the CARE database and undertake administrative duties related to the Major Gift Team strategy.

Key Liaisons

Senior Volunteers, Senior Management Team, Major Donors, Trusts and Foundations, Corporate Fundraising Team, Project Funding Team, Special Events Team, Regional Managers and contacts throughout fundraising.
