Job Purpose

To work in the areas of prevention, protection and response to minimise and actively reduce the risk to life and damage to property in the community.

To protect life and property and to serve the community in accordance with the Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP).

As a supervisory manager, assist with managing and leading a team through development and assessment to meet set objectives.

To work within and actively promote the Core Values of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Principal Accountabilities

1Community Safety

Through giving advice, demonstration and instruction, inform and educate the community to improve awareness of safety matters in accordance with the objectives of the organisation. This will include identifying relevant groups, selecting the required information and materials. You will need to take account on your actions with regards to the protection of the environment.

2Maintaining Operational Knowledge

By maintaining operational knowledge you will be capable, if required and after any necessary training, of responding to operational incidents and implementing an appropriate course of action. You will lead and support people to resolve Level 1 operational incidents and to close down the operational phase of an incident and conduct a debrief with relevant people.

3 Identifying Fire Safety Hazards

Through your normal daily activities, Fire Safety deficiencies must be passed promptly to the relevant people for action.

4 Supervision of Teams and Personnel

Through planning and assessment of work and through feedback to individuals, lead the work of teams and individuals to achieve their objectives in line with the Corporate Aims.

5 Managing Activities

Through agreeing objectives with relevant people, manage your daily activities and those of your team. You will encourage suggestions for improvements from those you supervise and resolve problems within your level of authority and ability. You will work within the Health, Safety and Welfare Practices and Guidelines of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

6Effective Personal Performance

By establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, take responsibility for personal performance to improve and develop your own skills. This will include obtaining feedback, updating development plans and being proactive towards personal development.

7Physical Fitness

By maintaining the required level of physical fitness you will maintain the capacity to meet the physical demands placed upon the role as determined by the Service Policy in force at that time.

8Development of Teams and Individuals

By contributing to the identification and planning of development needs, support the development activities and assessment of teams and individuals ensuring that the team objectives are met.

9Investigate and Report

By gathering information, providing findings and conclusions, investigate and report on events in various formats (written and verbal) to inform future practice by communicating with relevant people.

By working within and actively supporting the Service policies on Equality and Diversity and Fairness and Dignity at work you will demonstrate compassion, care and understanding in your dealings with workplace colleagues and the public.

11Health and Safety

You must adopt working principles that recognise the Health and Safety requirements for the tasks in relation to your own actions and those of others in the workplace. It is your responsibility to comply with Health and Safety legislation and HFRS Policies and Procedures.
