Job Title:Warehouse Sales Advisor

Reports to:Warehouse Sales Supervisor

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours over 5 days,

including Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays on a rota basis

Location:Hospiscare Enterprise Centre, Marsh Barton

Job purpose:

To assist the Warehouse Sales Supervisor with the day to day running of our Charity Warehouse shop based at Marsh Barton. Supporting them in actively developing sales of a diverse range of stock covering all price ranges, including furniture and electrical items, with the aim of maximising income and profitability taking into account Hospiscare’s guidelines, policies and procedures.

To ensure the Warehouse shop is presented to the highest standards and reflects the brand values of Hospiscare.

  1. Main tasks and responsibilities:

Sales and Profit

  • To work in conjunction with the Sales Supervisor, colleagues and volunteers toensureevery opportunity is taken to increase sales, raise the average transaction value (ATV) and convert browsers to buyers.
  • To understand and take an active interest in the financial budget of the shop, seeking ways to assist the Sales Supervisorin ensuring targets are met.
  • To actively promote and sell the Hospiscare lottery, with the aim of achieving targets on single ticket sales.

Customer Care

  • To work alongside the shop’s team of volunteers, assisting/training and motivating them when necessary to consistently exceed customer expectations.
  • To actively promote Gift Aid on donated items, ensuring that the customer is informed of the current Gift Aid legal requirements and that new donor details are accurately entered into the Cybertill system.
  • To ensure that you have a thorough knowledge of Hospiscare and act as an ambassador and customer service champion at all times.
  • To ensure donated goods are received with the appropriate thanks, and sensitivity when required.

Stock Control & Merchandising

  • To assist the Sales Supervisor to ensure effective and accurate stock control to maximise income and profitability.
  • To move furniture items, white goods and donated goods in cages between different areas of the HEC.
  • To be flexible in supporting and working alongside the warehouse team to ensure the continuous flow of stock coming onto the shop floor.
  • To ensure all donated stock is cleaned, priced and attractively displayed within the shop.
  • To adhere to best practice regarding all stock items recognising the need to secure best value vs. location (shops, ebay, Amazon, auction house etc.)
  • To ensure all ‘new goods’ stock is displayed attractively.
  • To promote and maintain the brand standards of Hospiscare.

Cash Handling and Security

  • To carry out the end of day procedures on the till, completing associated paperwork when required.
  • To ensure the safest possible environment for monies by observing the rules and procedures defined by Hospiscare.
  • To check all transactions accurately – cash, credit cards, credit notes and gift vouchers.
  • To take ownership of and investigate all till discrepancies in the absence of the Sales Supervisor.
  • Complete all necessary opening and closing procedures to maintain the smooth running of the Warehouse shop in the absence of the Sales Supervisor.
  1. Health and Safety
  • To maintain a safe working environment for all customers and staff, ensuring that all Health and Safety regulations as set out by Hospiscare are adhered to at all times.
  • To take reasonable care for the Health and Safety of yourself and others who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.
  • If required to carry out the weekly and quarterly H&S Inspection report, notifying any potential problems or maintenance required as and when instructed by the Sales Supervisor or in their absence.
  • To complete on-line manual handling and fire awareness training as and when required.

  • To ensure the highest standards of housekeeping are delivered consistently.
  • To attend training courses as necessary to meet the requirements of the post.
  • To attend regular meetings with the Warehouse management team.
  • To actively participate in Hospiscare fundraising initiatives as directed by line management.
  • To be aware of other charity shops and developments in your local area.
  • To ensure the security of the premises, stock, cash and product at all times in the absence of the manager.
  • To be accountable for your own development review process, seeking out opportunities to learn new skills.
  • Situations may arise that require the post holder to perform other duties or tasks as may be reasonably requested by Hospiscare.
  • To be part of a team which will include volunteers, being respectful of individual volunteer needs and requirements.
  • To assist with the overseeing of volunteers with support from the Sales Supervisor and in their absence.
  • To assist with the training of volunteers on the shop’s Gift Aid procedures, ensuring the Gift Aid policy is adhered to.
  • To assist the Sales Supervisor to recruit, train and develop volunteers as and when required.
  1. Dimensions of the Role
  • This post reports to the Warehouse Sales Supervisor.
  • The post holder will be responsible for assisting in achieving shop budgets.
  • To be able to work in other Hospiscare shops if required to cover holidays and sickness, being prepared for lone working on these occasions.

WAREHOUSE SALES ADVISOR

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ATTRIBUTES / ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
Qualifications, training and experience / Keen interest in/knowledge of the latest fashion/trends in retailing
Worked as part of a team to achieve goals / Recent High Street retail experience
Cash handling
Working with volunteers
Charity shop experience
Knowledge and skills / Confident and effective communicator
Excellent time management and organisational skills
Numerate and literate
Competent in basic IT (including email, internet, Word and Excel)
Understanding of and able to consistently deliver exceptional customer service / Working knowledge of EPOS/stock control systems
Aware of High Street and Out of Town retailers
Knowledge of visual merchandising techniques; experience of creating effective and attractive in-store and window displays
Knowledge of and interest in vintage/retro clothing, furniture and accessories
Personal requirements / Enthusiastic with a ‘can do’ attitude
Able to generate energy and ideas
Good team worker
Physically capable of assisting with the handling and moving of furniture and white goods; individually able to liftitems to a maximum of 10kg; able to remain on feet for long periods of time
Capable of working on own initiative
Aware of others’ needs and can demonstrate sensitivity when required
