Job Title: Senior Research Scientist

Reporting to: Director of Research and Development

Purpose: To build upon our position as one of the emerging global leaders in the development and advancement of revolutionary and new solutions for the construction industry, banah UK Ltd require a Senior Research Scientist.Taking responsibility forand leadingassigned research projects, the successful candidate will havean innovative approach, making significant scientific contributionto the development of novel cements and bindersfor industry. Working as part of the research team the Senior Research Scientist will contribute significant scientific knowledge leading to the development of new products, enhancement to existing products and contribute to the maintenance of collaborative partnerships that will assist the company to grow in a profitable manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provision and application of scientific expertise in new product development and continuous improvement of the company’s current offerings.
  • Provide detailed input to the research team to help build understanding of the chemistry in geopolymer / alkali aluminosilicate systems and supplementary cementitious materials.
  • Collaborate in the organising, implementation and monitoring of company research activities to ensure they are carried out to a high standard and brought to a successful completion.
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day running of research projects and make significant technical contributions to ongoing product development.
  • Work with potential customers to assist in the development of end products that perform to the required standards.
  • Participate positively inexisting external relationships which the company has with universities, institutes or other organisations and seek new relationshipsfor the purpose of acquiring new knowledge and/or gaining access to technology in order to improve and develop the company’s product range.
  • Perform routine and complex laboratory analyses, recognising and correcting errors.
  • Contribute to the writing of test procedures and policies, ensuring that all new products are thoroughly tested prior to their introduction to the marketplace.
  • Participate in the presentation of the company’s products to potential customers through the use of visual presentations and attendance at trade shows, addressing all scientific related questions.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of results and data and prepare publications of conclusions stemming from company research and development projects for the management team and relevant external parties.
  • Be accountable for expenses related to development projects.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant scientific research techniques and participate in continuous professional development activity.
  • Providing support and mentoring to junior technical staff.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of quality control procedures.
  • Work to and maintain health and safety procedures and general policies.
  • Conduct large scale concrete trials using heavy equipment.
  • Any other duties, within reason and capability, as determined by the Director of R&D.

Criteria / Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/ Attainments /
  • Degree in science,chemistry or materials engineering.

  • PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.

Relevant Knowledge and Experience /
  • Previous experience within a research laboratory environment including interpretation of results and maintenance of records.
  • Strong background in inorganic materials chemistry.
  • Experience of inorganic materials characterisation techniques.
  • Project management experience.
  • Knowledge of regulations impacting on scientific research Health and Safety in a laboratory.

  • Post-doctoral work experience in a materials sciences laboratory.
  • Knowledge of silicate chemistry.
  • Understanding of construction materials testing.
  • Experience in forming and maintaining productive relationships with universities and regulatory bodies

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including highly developed presentation and influencing skills.
