JOB TITLE:Retail Assistant

DEPARTMENT:Trading

RESPONSIBLE TO:Retail Manager

ACCOUNTABLE TO:Business and operational management of charity shop

Primary Job Purpose

1. To oversee a charity shops business and operational performance.

2. Supervise a large team of volunteers.

3. Earn income for the Hospice and maximising earning opportunities.

4. To oversee the sorting, display, sale and distribution of donations.

5. To arrange for distribution of specific items to other shops.

6. To arrange for the collection and disposal of non-saleable items.

7. To control costs and generate revenue.

8. Achieving daily, weekly and monthly income targets.

9. Reporting and analysing income weekly and monthly and achieving key performance indicators (KPI).

10. Deliver great customer service and represent the Hospice in the community.

11. Advertise and market Hospice events and fundraising initiatives.

12. Communicate Hospice information to all staff and volunteers.

13. To organise and sort donations, goods and merchandise throughout the area’s shops.

14. To be responsible for maximising income and stock in each shop on a daily and weekly basis.

15. To promote and expand the use of Gift Aid.

Principal Accountabilities

Duties and Responsibilities

1.Deliver great customer service and represent St Christopher’s in the community.

2. Communicate Hospice information to all staff and volunteers.

3. To organise and sort donations, goods and merchandise through out the area’s shops.

4. To be responsible for maximising income and stock in each shop on a daily and weekly basis.

5. To Maximise stock and income opportunities.

6. Research and save valuable items for valuation.

7. To manage the stock holding and undertake regular stock checks and inventories.

8. To arrange for deliveries and pick up from homes and businesses.

9. To assist in events and functions by helping arrange equipment and stock.

10. To follow safe work practices under national and company agreed Health and Safety guidelines.

11. Recruit and train volunteers accordingly to assist in day to day operations of the role.

12. To achieve and exceed tight deadlines.

13. Maintain accurate detailed records of staff, training, incidents and accidents and health and safety.

14. To be responsible for cash handling and banking.

15. To be a key holder and responsible for security of the shop.

16. To promote recycling and re use equipment and stock.

17. To promote new lines and brands.

18. To be entrepreneurial.

19. To have the flexibility to work over 7 days, when needed in different locations to cover shops.

Safeguarding/MCA and DoLS

Staff are required to take responsibility in all areas of work for safeguarding people at risk (both adults and children) from any form of abuse or neglect. When delivering care and support, staff are required to comply with the requirements of legislation relating to care in the UK, including the Care Act (2014), and Mental Health Capacity Act 2005, which incorporates the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). In order to achieve this, all staff are required to read St. Christopher’s Safeguarding Policy and Procedure and to participate in both regular training and training updates and to incorporate preventative strategies into their work, as applicable.

General

All employees are required to undertake the following:
