GRADE RANGE:Grade 5 (SCP 23-28)

£21,693-£25,463 per annum pro rata

17 hours per week

Working period approx.: 14 months

REPORTING TO:Heritage and Visitor Services Manager

PURPOSE

To provide effective project support for the delivery phase of Tamworth Castle’s Heritage Lottery Fund bid: Battle and Tribute. This will include a focus on;effective consultation, evaluation, co-ordination and assistance with the design and capital works delivery, administrative support and media promotion and marketing services as part of the project delivery.

BACKGROUND TO THE POST

The role will assist the Heritage and Visitor Services Manager to develop and manage the HLF project during the delivery stage. You will play a key role in establishing and delivering a consultation programme with users and non-users, as well as delivering an effective evaluation programme throughout the delivery phase. You will assist with marketing and promotional activities, and help plan the delivery of the activity plan to increase participation at the Castle. You will assist with research particularly with regard to pictures and images for interpretation panels and for content on a bespoke computer battle game and Saxon information viewer. You will also be required to assist the Heritage and Visitor Services Manager with HLF administration and financial requirements as well as any other project tasks as required.

HLF PROJECT – BATTLE AND TRIBUTE.

Tamworth Castle has been successful in receiving Heritage Lottery Funding for an exciting project which will transform the Castle. The project will deliver repair and conservation work to the building fabric; increase access to the Castle buildings and collections; and increase opportunities for learning about the Castle and the history of Tamworth.

Briefly the Battle and Tribute project will create an innovative and engaging permanent exhibition exploring Tamworth’s important Anglo-Saxon history on the top floor of Tamworth Castle. The exhibition will showcase pieces of the Staffordshire Hoard and artefacts from Tamworth Castle’s collection. It will form a key element in the Staffordshire Hoard Trail exploring many exciting aspects in the story of the Staffordshire Hoard including themes of battle, kingship and warrior culture in Anglo-Saxon Mercia.

CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Undertake any necessary monitoring and review activities including consultation to support the delivery of service.
  1. Work with partners, external agencies and community groups to improve and ensure the successful delivery of services.

SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES

HLF Bid – Battle and Tribute

  1. Co-ordinate an in-depth consultation programme with key stakeholders. This will require identification of, and consultation with, non-users and potential new audiences.
  2. Maintain contact with the project steering group, as a focus group drawn from the key stakeholders, and organise regular meetingsto update and get their feedback about the project.
  3. Support the implementation and delivery of an effective evaluation programme for the project, for both staff and current/new audiences.
  4. Assist with the research for the delivery of the exhibition interpretation panels, including sourcing images, purchasing image licences and ensuring copyright is met.
  5. Assist with research for the content on a computer battle game which includes a databank of information about Saxon Tamworth and Mercia.
  6. Establish and maintain good media relations, with a series of ‘good news’ articles to keep the public updated with project progress.
  7. Assist with the planning and implementation of aspects of the activity plan, including an annual lecture programme and Saxon launch festival.
  8. Assist with the coordination and development of Staffordshire Hoard Host as Tamworth Castle in liaison with other Staffordshire Hoard Trail partners.
  9. Assist the Heritage and Visitor Services Manager with project management for capital and interpretive works, as required, and HLF administration and financial requirements.
  10. Work in partnership with the Heritage and Visitor Services Manager and Education and Events Officer to deliver the Marketing plan as part of the HLF Activity Plan.
  11. Work in partnership with the Education Officer to devise and implement a volunteer living history programme and volunteer tour guide programme.
  12. Assist the Heritage and Visitor Services Manager with project management, as required, and HLF administration and financial requirements: payment requests, volunteer hour returns and invoice returns.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Be able to work evening, weekends and/or Bank holidays to carry out consultation or evaluation work required for the project.
