Job Title:New Work Co-Ordinator

Department:Artistic

Responsible To:Artistic Director

The New Work Co-ordinator is a new role, overseeing the script reading system, providing support to the Artistic and Associate Directors and working with the Artistic team to discover new talent and bring new plays and musicals to the stage.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Scripts and Playwrights

  • Develop the system for receiving and reading script submissions.
  • Manage any freelance script readers.
  • Manage relationships and communications with playwrights and agents, including those under commission.
  • Read plays at the request of the Artistic Director or Associate Director(s).
  • Proactively promote the development of a diverse range of artists.

Play Development and Projects

  • Support any writers’ programmes, readings or workshops, in conjunction with the Assistant Producer.
  • Oversee the management of discrete projects as required.

Programming and Production

  • Contribute to the artistic strategy of the organisation through planning meetings.
  • Contribute dramaturgically to the development of in house commissions and productions.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with literary agents, theatre writing organisations, and literary departments in other theatres.

New Writing Prize

  • With the Artistic Director set up, launch and managea new award for new writing.
  • Manage all approaches to potential judges.
  • Liaise with the communications department regarding publicising the award.
  • Manage the administration of the award, including the script reading process and communications with entrants.

General

  • Attend press nights etc.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of new writing in theatre.
  • Attend staff and other departmental meetings.
  • Any other duties as may reasonably be required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Previous experience of working with new writing and writers.
  • Networks and relationships within the theatre and new writing communities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience of managing projects.
  • A passion for new writing.
  • Understanding of and support for Sheffield Theatres’ mission and vision.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a new writing theatre.

MAIN TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Pay:circa £15,000per year

Probation:Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of 6 months’ probation.

Hours:Nominal average weekly hours are 24 excluding meal breaks. You will typically work three 8 hour days per week. Regular default days to be agreed with flexibility needed to meet the requirements of the role.

In addition you will be required to work such hours and/or days as are needed to fulfill the requirements of the position. Time off in lieu will be given for hours worked over 24 in a week subject to such hours having been authorised by your manager. Time off in lieu will be allocated and taken within the following 8 weeks or if not practicable added to holiday entitlement.

Holidays:Holiday entitlement is 5.8 weeks per year increasing by 1/5th of a week each year up to a maximum of 6.8 weeks after five years’ service. This holiday entitlement includes Public Holidays.

Pension: On successful completion of the probationary periodyou are eligible to join a defined benefits pension scheme (The People’s Pension) with an employer contribution of 3.5% of basic pay and a minimum of a matching employee contribution. During your probation you will be auto enrolled into The People’s Pension in accordance with statutory deadlines and contributions.
