Job Purpose

To engage, motivate, challenge and support young people taking part inthe National Citizen Service (NCS) programme.The support worker will assist the team leader and NCS Co-ordinator in supporting their designated team(s) and contribute to the day to day delivery of tasks and activities of the programme.

NbThe specific activity(ies) will be identified to and agreed with the post holder from time to time.

Duties and Responsibilities

General

  1. Subject to the general discretion of the Executive Board of Trustees, to manage and develop the work of Youth Federation in such way as to achieve the objectives set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association using methods meeting the highest acceptable standards of professional conduct within budgets and plans agreed with the Chief Executive and in general ensuring the effective use of the resources available to the organisation.

Project Delivery

  1. To work directly with young people in planning, delivering and evaluating specified tasks as part of the NCS programme that will stimulate, engage and provide positive learning opportunities for participants.
  1. To work co-operatively and collaboratively with staff and volunteers from statutory and voluntary agencies in delivering a high quality NCS project.
  1. Contribute to the delivery of the NCS programmesupporting staff and volunteers in delivering the specific phases or the programme (including, induction, outdoor residential and social action projects)
  1. Support young people in groups or individually in meeting their personal, social and educational needs.
  1. Develop and maintain relationships with young people project partners and members of the public in delivering the NCS Summer of a Lifetime.
  1. Motivate young people involved in each project to progress and develop in order to meet their full potential.

Administration

  1. Support the NCS team leader levels in recording attendance and log books to ensure compliance with the NCS project specification
  1. Help in the preparation of progress reports and quality control assessments for in contribution to the NCS evaluation.

Other

  1. Participate in the day to day activities of NCS including supervision of young people during activities including overnight residential duties.
  1. To participate in evaluation of NCS activities and contribute to the smooth running of the project
  1. Carry out work in accordance with the Federation’s Equal Opportunities Policy
  1. Maintain confidentiality at all times and ensure respect for proper observance of and adherence to the Youth Federations confidentiality policy.
  1. Be involved in the publicity, media and training work of the NCS programme, as required.
  1. You have a legal duty that gives you responsibility, so far as is reasonably practicable, to ensure that you do not endanger yourself or anyone else by your acts or omissions. In addition you must cooperate with the charity on health and safety matters and must not interfere or misuse anything provided for health, safety and welfare purposes.
  1. Notwithstanding the Job Purpose and Duties and Responsibilities included in this job description, the Youth Sessional Worker must be prepared to undertake additional tasks, duties and responsibilities at the discretion of senior management and that fall within the strategic and corporate objectives of the Federation (and as appropriate Youth Federation Trading Limited)
