The Purpose of the Role:

The Midlands3Cities Doctoral Training Partnership (M3C DTP) is a consortium involving six Midlands Universities (the University of Nottingham in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University, Birmingham City University, the University of Birmingham, De Montfort University & the University of Leicester). It has been awarded £14.6 million by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to deliver innovative and world-leading research training for five cohorts of Arts and Humanities doctoral students between 2014 and 2021. Institutional match funding brings the total budget to c. £30 million.

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated individual who will make a significant contribution to the development and management of the consortium and help ensure the successful delivery of the programme. This is a complex and demanding role which requires a manager with excellent planning and interpersonal skills, who can develop strong working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders; considerable project management experience with the proven ability to manage a number of projects simultaneously and to deliver on them. The role holder will be supported by a team of 2.0 FTE(DTP Administrator, Placements and Relationships Manager, Finance Manager) and will be responsible for their management.

The post holder will be responsible to the M3C consortium as a whole but will be based in the Graduate School at the University of Nottingham. They will report jointly to the M3C DTP Director and the Head of the Graduate School and will work closely with a broad range of colleagues at the consortium universities and partner organisations from potential employers and the arts sector.

Main Responsibilities:

1. / Strategic, and operational planning and management
•Working with the M3C Director and M3C team to manage and deliver the DTP and to develop and implement its associated strategies and processes ensuring that these are in line with the consortium and AHRC terms and conditions;
•Providing administrative leadership to the M3C and managing day-to-day operations and decision making;
•Operational management of the agreed processes and ensure effective working relationships with relevant colleagues at all six universities in order to lead on and support the successful delivery of the programme;
•Managing and coordinating the consortium-level student recruitment and selection cycle;
•Managing and coordinating a range of consortium events and training programmes (eg. recruitment, residential, induction, partners events, skills training and public engagement in a variety of contexts);
•Working with colleagues at the six institutions and external partner organisations to ensure that students have access to a portfolio of high quality training, events and activities to support their professional and career development;
•Contributing to the design and development of new training interventions as appropriate;
•Working with the Finance Manager to ensure spend is in accordance with regulations and to manage the award process for specific funding streams;
•Contributing to the development of relevant funding proposals which complement the work of the DTP and help lever additional benefits. / 40%
Stakeholder and relationship management
•Developing strong working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders;
•Brokering and managing relationships with external partners (including overseeing DTP partnership and placement strategy and activity in liaison with the Placements and Relationships Manager);
•Providing specialist and technical advice to stakeholders on issues relating to the implementation of the DTP and interpretation of policy and regulations; and
•Identifying and pursuing opportunities to work with other universities and organisations to share and develop practice. / 25%
2. / People Management
•Line management, supervision and performance review of the MC3 team, including Administrator, Placements and Relationships Managerand Finance Manager to ensure the successful delivery of the DTP administration. / 10%
3 / Monitoring and reporting
•Monitoring and analysis of a range of data and contributing to reports for the Director, AHRC and DTP Management and Governance groups ; and
•Designing and implementing the DTP evaluation strategy, including mechanisms for monitoring the wider impact and value of the DTP / 10%
4. / Marketing and Communications
•Leading and managing a marketing and communications strategy to maximise student recruitment to the DTP and to promote the profile of the DTP and consortium both internally and externally including through social media where appropriate;
•Developing an effective internal communications strategy to ensure that all stakeholders are informed of relevant DTP developments and issues;
•Managing and overseeing the DTP’s web pages and social media presence; and
•Coordinating attendance/display/presentations at key events and representing the DTP wherever appropriate / 10%

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/
Education / •Honours Degree, or equivalent professional experience. / •Postgraduate qualification preferably in an Arts and Humanities Discipline
•Project Management qualification
Knowledge / •Knowledge of and experience in the HE sector, university decision making, structures and procedures and demonstrably relevant understanding of the Arts and Humanities and creative and cultural industries.
•Understanding of the postgraduate research and the Research Council student funding landscape.
•Knowledge of financial processes and approaches used to manage and control budgets.
•Demonstrable understanding of marketing and communication principles. / •Knowledge of key developments in research student training, student recruitment processes and the creative industries.
Skills/Training / •Proven project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
•Excellent numeracy and IT skills to analyse and report on data from a range of complex sources;
