Hours: 37.5 per week (Some evening work will be required)

The Brain Charity is a charity which supports individuals with neurological conditions such as brain injury, dementia, learning disability, stroke and brain tumour.

Our Information and Advice Officers offer high quality practical advice and emotional support to individuals and form part of an enthusiastic and committed community of staff and volunteers

Summary of role description:

To work with individuals and their families, friends and carers visiting The Walton Centre neurological hospital and other relevant health settings in the area to offer practical support, information and advice on areas such as employment, legal support, welfare benefits and housing.

Main tasks:

Supporting Inpatients at The Walton Centre

  • Conduct daily visits to the wards and intensive care unit to offer hands on practical support to inpatients.
  • Facilitate and support patients to access legal and welfare benefits support.
  • Be a point of contact for consultants to refer patients who need immediate emotional support.

Dealing with Enquiries

  • Assist with enquiries made via telephone, email and face to face in our information pod within The Walton Centre and at The Brain Charity centre in Norton Street.
  • Attend clinics to provide information and advice to outpatients of The Walton Centre.
  • Make referrals and signpost individuals to other relevant charities working within the field, our own internal services and legal-based services.

Relationship building with other key services and professionals

  • Be an active presence within The Walton Centre and build relationships with key contacts to raise awareness of our work and our services.
  • Understand and operate within current NHS procedures and policies.
  • Proactively support professionals at the Walton Centre and other key hospitals/health services in the area to improve their levels of patient experience.
  • Actively Support promotional and fundraising events for both The Brain Charity and The Walton Centre.

Other

  • Keep accurate records and produce reports as required.
  • Recruit and supervise volunteers as required.
  • Cary out any other reasonable tasks which may be required by the charity from time to time.
