Job Analysis

This job analysis is representative of the position. When used for a specific employee, this job analysis must bereviewed with the employee and supervisor and any differences noted on an Addendum page. This analysis is not meant to be a comprehensive description of this position’s duties, but an aid in determining an individual’s ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without accommodation.

Section I

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, to do skilled work in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment including buses, trucks, tractors, automobiles, power mowers, and other mechanical equipment; and to do related work as required.

Essential Functions / Tasks:

  1. Inspect buses, automobiles, trucks, tractor, and other mechanical equipment used in the school district.
  2. Diagnose mechanical troubles and make all types of mechanical repairs, such as general overhauling, changing points and plugs, lubing and changing the oil, replacing and adjusting bearings, adjusting ignition and carburetors, assembling transmissions and differentials, relining and adjusting brakes, installing axles, overhauling, steering gears and drive shafts.
  3. Does electric and acetylene welding.
  4. Repair power lawn mowers, playground equipment, and other mechanical equipment.
  5. Lubricate equipment.
  6. Change tires.
  7. Paint vehicles when necessary.
  8. Repair and service vehicles with diesel engines.
  9. Order materials and parts necessary to maintain equipment.
  10. May be required to perform the duties of a School Bus Driver in an emergency or as needed. (See School Bus Drive class specification.)

  • Principles of internal combustion engines and the methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment. Safe driving practices.

  • Drive a school bus over designate routes safely. Diagnose mechanical defects and make necessary repair to mechanical equipment. Use standard shop tools and equipment safely. Perform heavy manual labor. Maintain simple records and prepare reports. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
